When you join the YMCA, you're not just a member of a gym, you're part of a community that is here for everyone. As a nonprofit community organization, the Y works towards providing practical and affordable answers to large-scale community issues focusing on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, for a better us.
Currently, we offer a variety of indoor and outdoor exercise options, access to the fitness center and weight room, lap swim, open gym, personal training, youth sports, pickleball, teen programs, child care, private swim lessons and more. All that you can gain access to by joining the Y! Plus when we do reopen completely, you'll be pleased to find we have so much more in store. While the world is not quite back to normal yet, with the Y and our community working together, we can still safely come together and take care of our health and wellness—physically, socially and mentally. Together, we are stronger.

Regardless of your home branch selection, your membership includes access to all available offerings at both the Berkeley Heights YMCA & the Summit YMCA.
With guidance from the local and state authorities, we are continually adapting our programming to serve the needs of our members. We have incorporated a number of new protocols and safety measures to help keep you safe while participating in activities at our Y.
General visits to workout in the fitness center do not require a reservation, however members are required to check-in and check out of the building to maintain an accurate capacity count.
The numbers show the percentage of members checked in to the Fitness Center. We have incorporated the reduced capacity requirements into this calculation. As the number moves towards 100% it means there are more members in the facility relative to the new total capacity. Only if the capacity dashboard reaches 100% will you have to wait until someone leaves, to enter the facility.
Browse our current offerings and associated participation policies on our REOPENING GUIDE for the most up to date information on available programs and policies.
As a nonprofit, we are committed to enhancing the lives of individuals and families in our community. With the generous donations of members, donors, and partners in the community, the Summit Area YMCA is able to offer financial assistance for our programs to those in need.
Financial assistance at the Summit Area YMCA can be used for membership, child care, summer camp, enrichment and/or sports programs where additional fees apply, such as soccer or swimming lessons.
Not only will you enjoy exclusive access to members only programming, but you also priority and online registration options (before classes become available to the community) as well as reduced fees for classes, programs, swim lessons, personal training and more.
As one of the area’s leading 501(c)(3) charitable non-profit organizations, your membership brings meaningful change not just to yourself, but to your community. Supporting the Y means investing in your community -- in turn supporting Y programs for those in need.
The Summit Area YMCA offers a variety of community oriented, fun, educational, and social special events for all ages! Join us for virtual events, themed fitness classes, holiday celebrations, cultural events, wellness discussions, charity auctions, volunteer opportunities, and more!
