As the nation’s leading nonprofit, the Y brings people together to strengthen community connections and ensure everyone has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive. We embrace belonging, bridging, and global engagement as cornerstones of our mission so people from all walks of life can reach their potential.
We live our mission by creating a welcoming, respectful environment across every aspect of the Y experience. Through membership, wide-ranging programs, community events, and financial assistance based on need, we strive to make participation accessible for all individuals and families.
In 2008, Y-USA launched the Global Centers of Excellence network to help local Ys respond to changing demographics and strengthen their ability to welcome and serve all communities. Building on this foundation, the network evolved into the DIG Innovation Network (now GRACE: Global Relations and Community Engagement), focused on connection, equity, and innovation. Active in 119 countries, Ys partner with other Ys around the world to address pressing social issues, share knowledge, and strengthen communities at home and abroad.
The Summit Area YMCA is proud to have been recognized as the first DIG Innovation Network YMCA in New Jersey, a reflection of our ongoing commitment to creating meaningful programs, building bridges, and ensuring everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
“The Summit Area YMCA is committed to creating a culture in which diversity and inclusion are integral to everyday operations. Our Y will empower communities through access to the support and connections all people need to learn, grow, and thrive. Through welcoming, inclusive practices and environments, we will welcome and engage all people from all diverse groups of the community to help and impact lasting, meaningful change.”

At the Y, we believe stronger communities are built when people listen, learn, and act with empathy. Explore resources and simple steps you can take to foster fairness, connection, and belonging in everyday life.
At the Summit Area YMCA, our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) provide a platform for staff to connect, collaborate, and support one another. These groups foster belonging, encourage professional growth, and create opportunities for shared learning. For more information on ERGs, please contact Trevor Cromwell, Summit Area YMCA, Teen & Equity Director.
The Y is committed to meeting community needs and creating opportunities for all. When you give or volunteer, you fuel innovation, connection, and programs that help people of every background thrive. Together, we build stronger, healthier, and more connected communities.
