Dream In Action: MLK Winter Collection Drive & Day of Service

Join us for Dream in Action: MLK Day Service & Collection Drive, a Summit Area YMCA initiative honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy of service, equity, and compassion. Now through January 19, we’re collecting coats, hats, gloves, and toys to support and distribute to local families in need.

COLLECTION DRIVE

We are collecting new and gently used winter items for families.

  • WHEN: Now through January 19 (Until Noon)
  • WHERE: Drop-off at Berkeley Heights YMCA, Summit YMCA, or The Learning Circle YMCA
  • ITEMS NEEDED:
    • Coats for all ages (New or gently used)
    • Hats and gloves (New)
    • Toys and games (New or gently used)
    • Coat Hangers

MLK DAY OF SERVICE: VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Volunteers are essential to bringing this event to life on Monday, January 19 at the Summit YMCA. While families ‘shop’ children will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on activity stations. Crafts and projects created during the event will be donated to local organizations, spreading joy beyond the walls of the Y. Any remaining clothing items after the event will be donated to a local charity, ensuring that every contribution continues to make an impact. Volunteer opportunities include set-up, event support, and clean-up.

SETUP SHIFT:

Unpack and organize donations, hang coats on racks, set up tables for hats, gloves, toys, and games, etc.

  • 12:00–4:30 PM


EVENT SHIFT:

Volunteers will monitor specific areas to assist shoppers.

  • 4:30-5:30 PM
  • 5:30-6:30 PM
  • 6:30-7:30 PM
  • 7:30-8:30 PM


CLEANUP SHIFT:

Pack up and organize donations, breakdown tables, etc.

  • 8:00-9:00 PM
