Introductory Triathlon Discipline Workshops starting 8/17

Need some extra training sessions to prepare for the Summit Area YMCA’s Mini-Triathlon? Well, we are hosting multiple introductory triathlon discipline workshops each week leading up to the big event on Sunday, September 12!

Join our team as we learn about the three disciplines practiced in triathlons: swim, bike, and run, while participating in discussions about ways to train and workout on your own.

The first session begins on Tuesday, August 17 at 6:00 PM and it’s free of charge!

There is a limited number of spots available for each session , so we encourage you to register online to claim your spot! Participants can register in-person if spots are available.


WORKSHOPS


Triathlon Introduction

When: Tuesday, August 17 | 6:00 PM-6:45 PM
Where: Berkeley Heights Community Pool at the YMCA
Price: Free

Learn about the disciplines of triathlon: swim, bike, and run. This workshop will be an introduction to the sport on the Berkeley Heights Community Pool at the YMCA’s pool deck with some in-water stroke techniques, ideas for swim workouts, bike discussion and strategies, and run discussion and strategies.
Please bring a bathing suit, goggles, towel and running gear.

Introduction to Swimming Discipline

When: Tuesday, August 24 | 6:00-7:00 PM
Where: Berkeley Heights Community Pool at the YMCA
Price: $20

This workshop will be an introduction to the discipline of swimming. Participants will expand their knowledge about triathlon-specific stroke techniques, sighting, breathing, and other various swimming practices. This session will also include a short workout, some dryland exercises, and a discussion about swimming strategies.
Please bring a bathing suit, goggles, water and towel.

Introduction to Cycling Discipline

When: Tuesday, August 31 | 7:00-8:00 PM
Where: Berkeley Heights YMCA, Cycling Studio
Price: $20

This workshop will be an introduction to the discipline of cycling. Participants will meet in the Berkeley Heights YMCA Cycling Studio. We will focus on triathlon-specific cycling strategies and endurance. A workout, some exercises and discussion will be included to enhance participants physical understanding of the discipline.
Please bring cycling gear, water and a towel.

Introduction to Running Discipline

When: Tuesday, September 7 | 7:00-8:00 PM
Where: Berkeley Heights YMCA, Fitness Center
Price: $20

The introduction to running will take place at the Berkeley Heights YMCA’s fitness center. Participants will focus on triathlon-specific running techniques, endurance, breathing, and pacing. A workout and intermittent exercises will be included, along with a discussion about running strategies.
Please bring running gear, water and a towel.

MINI-TRIATHLON

When: Sunday, September 12 | 6:00-9:00 AM
Where: Berkeley Heights YMCA & Berkeley Heights Community Pool at the YMCA
Price: $25.00 for Members of the Berkeley Heights YMCA, Summit YMCA & Berkeley Heights Community Pool at the YMCA; $40.00 for Non-Members (T-shirt included)

The Summit Area YMCA Mini Triathlon will be on Sunday, September 12, indoor and outdoor at the Berkeley Heights YMCA. Participants will swim, bike, and run their way to victory in timed waves. The first wave will begin at 6:00 AM.
