Basketball

 

 

The Summit Area YMCA has basketball programs for all ages and levels. We teach the basic skills and rules of the sport, while also focusing on the important values of sportsmanship, teamwork and more. Join a clinic and improve your skills, join a league to compete and unleash the basketball star inside you or shoot some hoops and enjoy a friendly game with other members during open gym!


PEE WEE & JUNIORS BASKETBALL

Our co-ed Pee Wee & Juniors Basketball teams are open to all community members ages 4-6. Players will learn fundamental basketball skills, make new friends and more. For this age group, our coaches place emphasis on structured drills and fun games. This is a beginner basketball program to develop those first ball and game skills. 

We are excited to also offer ADAPTIVE PEE WEE BASKETBALL at the Summit YMCA for children ages 5-8 years old with diverse abilities. This small group training class is specifically designed for special needs youth where they will learn the basic fundamentals of basketball in a fun, safe and supportive environment.

YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUE

Participation in our Youth Basketball League is open to all community members ages 5-9. Players learn the fundamentals of basketball, make new friends, grow self-confidence and more, in a safe and fun environment. Each player received guaranteed playing time to promote fair play. In this age group, our coaches place emphasis on structured drills, positive competition, sportsmanship & teamwork.

Youth Basketball League runs every year during the late Fall and early Winter, in the Summit YMCA Hubbard Gym.

YOUTH BASKETBALL TRAINING

Our basketball training clinics are designed to develop and fine tune basketball fundamentals while learning teamwork, strategy and sportsmanship. Participants will focus on game rules, shooting, passing and ball handling. They will also learn offensive and defensive skills like rebounding and strategy.

We also offer private and small group basketball training sessions that provides your child with one-on-one personalized attention with our skilled basketball instructors. Our private basketball training sessions provide participants personalized attention from our skilled basketball instructors in a small group setting. Training is based on each participants accessed skill level to further develop shooting, ball handling, speed, strategy, team play, offensive and defensive skills. Dates and times are scheduled individually per student.

YOUTH BASKETBALL TRAINING

 

TRAVEL YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUE

Participation in our co-ed travel basketball league (Ages 8-14) is based on invitation from tryouts performance. The travel league is divided by ages into two teams, 12 & under and 14 & under. Your team will play other local YMCAs and youth leagues at Hoop Heaven. In this age group, our coaches place emphasis on advanced skills, positive competition & teamwork.

Tryouts for the 2020-2021 Travel League will take place in the Fall of 2020.


ADULT BASKETBALL

The Summit Area YMCA offers multiple sessions every week exclusively for Adult Basketball. Enjoy a few pickup games with friends or run some training drills on your own. We also host open gym at least twice a day, so you can enjoy hours of basketball, volleyball, soccer and more - everyday!

We'd love to have you! The Summit Area YMCA is a cause-driven, volunteer-led organization. Our volunteers are advocates for a better tomorrow. We view them as shining examples of social responsibility selflessly sharing their time, talent and treasure to advance the Y’s cause and to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families locally.

All interested volunteers will be asked to fill out an application. Once your application is received, it will be forwarded to the Branch Volunteer Coordinator at your preferred location who will contact you within 48 hours to discuss your interests and schedule an interview.

To ensure the highest level of safety for our members and children, we are very careful with our employee and volunteer selection. Most volunteer positions will require your completion of new volunteer paperwork and online training, along with reference checks and your approval for a criminal background check.
