EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

MORE THAN JUST CHILDCARE

At the Summit Area YMCA, we’re proud to offer high-quality early childhood education programs at two exceptional locations. The Learning Circle YMCA in Summit serves children from 6 weeks through 5 years, while The Learning Lane in Berkeley Heights welcomes children ages 18 months through 5 years. Both centers provide safe, nurturing spaces where curiosity is sparked, creativity is encouraged, and a love of learning takes root. With experienced teachers, engaging curricula, and developmentally appropriate activities, we focus on supporting each child’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth, laying the foundation for lifelong success.

Program highlights:

  • Experienced educators, many with over 15, 25, or even 40 years of service in early childhood education
  • Low student-to-teacher ratios that support individualized attention and strong connections
  • Weekly swim lessons at the Summit YMCA, beginning in preschool
  • Enrichment activities such as music, movement, local guest visits, and more
  • Full-size gymnasium onsite at Learning Lane

THE LEARNING LANE AT THE BERKELEY HEIGHTS YMCA

All of our early education programs at the Y implement The Creative Curriculum® for Infants, Toddlers & Twos and The Creative Curriculum® for Preschool. These are state-approved, research-based curriculums that consist of 38 objectives our teachers use for planning and assessment. The Creative Curriculum® for Infants, Toddlers & Twos supports teachers in creating both routines and individual experiences for our little ones. The Creative Curriculum® for Preschool helps teachers build on children's confidence, creativity, and critical thinking skills, while promoting positive outcomes through studies, which are hands-on, project based investigations.

Please note that the section of Maple Street closest to the Summit YMCA will be closed from approximately 7 AM to 11 AM on Sunday, May 5, for our Mother’s Day 5K. Please use Cedar Street to access the public lot that is next to our building.
