On May 14, 2026, the Berkeley Heights YMCA was transformed into a lively 1950s-inspired celebration as the Summit Area YMCA welcomed guests for this year’s Extra Special Prom: Shake, Rattle & Roll! From poodle skirts and leather jackets to rock ‘n’ roll classics filling the room, the evening was packed with energy, joy, and unforgettable memories.

Promgoers arrived in style to cheers from volunteers and supporters before stepping onto the red carpet and into a night designed to celebrate inclusion, friendship, and fun. Guests were crowned, presented with corsages or boutonnieres, and paired with volunteer buddies who danced and celebrated alongside them throughout the evening.

Inside the gym, the retro-themed décor brought the 1950s to life with colorful decorations, festive photo opportunities, and a packed dance floor where guests showed off their best moves all night long. DJ Thoro Entertainment kept the music pumping and the energy high as guests danced, sang along, and celebrated together throughout the evening.

While promgoers celebrated, parents and guardians gathered nearby to enjoy dinner and conversation together in a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. The evening provided not only a memorable experience for participants, but also a meaningful opportunity for families to connect and feel supported
