At the Y, we’ve held a commitment to our community for generations to build more confident swimmers and instill water safety for all. From group to private lessons to competitive swimming, we are proud to carry on the tradition of developing strong swimmers of all ages.
Our swim lesson program is structured around three age categories, with students assigned to a stage based on their swimming ability.
Unsure which stage is right? A quick swim evaluation will guide proper placement and set your swimmer up for success. It’s simple, fast, and recommended for anyone entering Stage 4 and above. Swim evaluations are offered Monday-Thursday, 3:00-3:45 PM or Sundays, 1:00-4:00 PM at the Buntin Pool at the Summit YMCA.

Our 2nd Grade Learn-to-Swim Program offers free swim lessons for eligible second graders with beginner to intermediate skills, helping build a strong foundation in water safety and swimming confidence. Eligible 2nd graders are fully integrated into our standard swim lesson classes, participating alongside their peers at the start of each session.
How it works:
Open to all current 2nd graders with beginner–intermediate abilities
Free for children who qualify for financial assistance at the YMCA or receive free school lunch
Participants may enroll in any regular swim lesson offered at the start of a session
Sessions are available during Winter, Spring, and Fall
Families should review the available swim lesson options on our website, select the class that best matches their child’s skill level, and complete the registration form. Our team will then confirm eligibility and complete enrollment.
