Harvest Your Potential at the Y!

With a robust lineup of classes beginning in September, the Summit Area YMCA invites people of all ages and abilities to register for programs that will help keep their minds and bodies sharp and give them something to look forward to each week. From afterschool STEM activities for children to a variety of sports programs, swim lessons, and fitness classes, the Y is well poised to help everyone reach their potential and have fun while doing it.

Registration for the Summit Area YMCA’s fall programs is now open, and local residents will have the opportunity to select some traditional YMCA staples, like the ever-popular youth basketball, t-ball, tennis, volleyball and soccer programs. These programs are available to everyone in the community, but those who become Summit Area YMCA members can also indulge in new cutting-edge Les Mills classes for adults like BodyCombat, a mixed martial art workout, at no additional cost.

With two state-of-the-art locations conveniently located in Berkeley Heights and Summit, individuals have the flexibility to choose the facility that is closest to them or enjoy the amenities of both.

“As many of us return from summer vacation and as families embark on another school year, it’s the perfect season to sign up for a new program or class that builds in ‘me time’ for you and your family,” said Chief Operating Officer Terri Clinton. “Our programs are a great outlet, where you can destress, bond with others, and try something new.”

Those looking to enjoy the therapeutic benefits of swim all throughout the year will love the indoor pools at the Summit YMCA, where everyone from infants to seniors can learn to swim for the first time in both group and individual lessons.

In addition to programs that get your body moving, the Y also offers social activities that help you stretch your mind. Its afterschool chess program for school-age children is back by popular demand along with a Lego club for budding engineers and a Detectives in Training program for kids who want to see if they have what it takes to solve big cases by dusting for fingerprints, extracting DNA, and analyzing handwriting.

As a special perk, the Summit Area YMCA is excited to offer members a $100 credit towards our programs when they sign up for or upgrade to a family membership by September 15! Use this credit for any of our programs starting in November—just a little extra something to kickstart your family’s fun (please note, this credit cannot be applied to childcare).

About the Summit Area YMCA
In 1886, we were founded as the Young Men’s Christian Association, but today, we are The Y. An association that values and is made stronger by its diverse people. We stand for youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility — For a better us. We are committed to creating equal opportunity for all regardless of gender, age, disability, income, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or religious affiliation. We strive to create a welcoming and inclusive culture in which our four core values — responsibility, honesty, caring, and respect — are integral to everyday operations.

Each year, as one of the area’s leading 501(c)(3) charitable organizations, the Summit Area YMCA serves more than 17,000 individuals with our free and fee-based programs and services in an area spanning the New Jersey communities of Berkeley Heights, Gillette, Millburn, New Providence, Short Hills, Springfield, Stirling, and Summit. Our history is rooted in working side-by-side with our neighbors to ensure everyone can learn, grow, and thrive. Through the generosity of our members, donors, and partners, we are able to offer financial assistance for our programs and services to those in need.
