In an effort to empower those living with Parkinson’s disease and Arthritis, the Summit Area YMCA now offers exercise classes that help individuals manage their quality of life, coordination, range of motion, flexibility, and more. Our programs incorporate the newest research principles in aerobic training and movement to retrain and optimize function for individuals with balance and movement disorders.
PARKINSON'S DISEASE EXERCISE CLASS
A science-based exercise program that caters to improving Parkinson’s disease (PD) and Multiple Sclerosis (MS) symptoms and specific exercises that help restore lost function. Our exercise class incorporates the newest research principles of forced exercise, aerobic training and dissociated movements to retrain or optimize function for people with PD and other balance or movement disorders.
When: Fridays, 1:15-2:15 PM Where: Berkeley Heights YMCA, Gymnasium Cost: The class is free for members and $10 for non-members. If a non-member, visit the front desk prior to class.
Participants should be able to climb a flight of stairs without help (no steps during the class), stand up from a chair without help and be able to tolerate about 40 minutes of activity.
Please note that the section of Maple Street closest to the Summit YMCA will be closed from approximately 7 AM to 11 AM on Sunday, May 5, for our Mother’s Day 5K. Please use Cedar Street to access the public lot that is next to our building.
