Prepare yourself for an exhilarating STEM Month Celebration, where budding engineers, scientists, and coding enthusiasts grades 5-7 venture into a realm of education and excitement!
Children will engage in 3 rotating stations of the span of 2 hours, with the following events:
(1) Sail Car – Understand the principle of converting wind power into motion. Each team must collaborate to create a sail car and complete the checkpoint task.
(2) Cliff-Hanging Horse – Create a horse using 2cm granular building blocks, then use cotton thread to bind a self-adjusted weight. Make the horse move towards the table without falling; passing is achieved if it stays within 2cm from the table edge.
(3) Catapult – Create a catapult using 2cm granular building blocks and challenge to launch it for basket to catch.
There will then be a final competition, where the young engineers stay in their teams and create a programmed robot!
These activities are more than just learning; they’re about having fun while picking up new skills. Engaging in building block exercises boosts your creativity and problem-solving abilities, as you create fascinating structures.
Students will learn from experienced scouts from Troop 67 on how to build, program and operate robots. They then have the opportunity to showcase their newfound knowledge in the ultimate competition.
Registration opens on February 24, 2024. Don’t miss out! It all takes place at the Summit YMCA at 67 Maple Street in Summit, NJ.
