Summit Area YMCA CEO Shares Plans to Resign, Cites Pride in Organization’s Achievements

After 11 years of service, CEO Paul Kieltyka has announced his resignation from the Summit Area YMCA.

“My biggest pride and joy has been working with countless staff, members, Board of Trustees, volunteers, and community residents in lockstep to make our Y bigger, stronger, and more impactful. These people treated me and our Y like gold,” said Paul Kieltyka.

“The Board of Trustees is profoundly grateful for Paul’s dedication and leadership over the past 11 years,” said Maria Brugg, Chair of the Summit Area YMCA Board of Trustees. “During Paul’s tenure, our YMCA has expanded its reach, heightened its impact, strengthened its programs, and solidified its position as a cornerstone in our service area. We are committed to finding a strong and innovative leader who will build upon our strong foundation, partnering with all of our stakeholders to guide the YMCA toward a bright future.”

Over the last decade, the Summit Area YMCA built a new 42,000-square-foot state-of-the-art Berkeley Heights YMCA, completed a significant renovation of the Summit YMCA, successfully navigated through COVID, strengthened the offerings of The Learning Circle YMCA child development center, and established a partnership to operate the Springfield Community Pool.  The YMCA continues to expand, serving a larger number of members in our service area.

The Board of Trustees thanks Paul for his service and will be forming a committee to identify his successor who will lead our YMCA into the future.

SUMMIT AREA YMCA

BERKELEY HEIGHTS YMCA | SUMMIT YMCA | THE LEARNING CIRCLE YMCA

In 1886, we were founded as the Young Men’s Christian Association, but today, we are The Y; an association that values, and is made stronger by, its diverse people. We stand for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility — For a better us. We are committed to creating equal opportunity for all regardless of gender, age, disability, income, ethnicity, sexual orientation or religious affiliation. We strive to create a welcoming and inclusive culture in which our four core values — responsibility, honesty, caring and respect — are integral to everyday operations.

Each year, as one of the area’s leading 501(c)3 charitable organizations, the Summit Area YMCA serves more than 15,000 individuals with our free and fee-based programs and services in an area spanning the New Jersey communities of Berkeley Heights, Gillette, Millburn, New Providence, Short Hills, Springfield, Stirling and Summit. Our history is rooted in working side-by-side with our neighbors to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. Through the generosity of our members, donors, and partners, we are able to offer financial assistance for our programs and services to those in need.

Please note that the section of Maple Street closest to the Summit YMCA will be closed from approximately 7 AM to 11 AM on Sunday, May 5, for our Mother’s Day 5K. Please use Cedar Street to access the public lot that is next to our building.
