Anjali Rao McCormick Appointed CEO of the Summit Area YMCA

SUMMIT, NJ – The Summit Area YMCA is proud to announce the appointment of Anjali Rao McCormick as its permanent Chief Executive Officer. A Summit resident and longtime YMCA leader, McCormick returned earlier this year as interim CEO to the organization where her Y journey began — first as the Director of Marketing, then as Senior Vice President and COO, and now as its permanent top executive. Anjali is a graduate of Harvard and has an MBA in Marketing from NYU. She has worked at Citibank and American Express and blends a business mindset with a nonprofit heart.

“Watching Anjali embrace our organization over the last 5 months reinforced what we already knew — that she is the right person to lead us into the future,” said Lisa Grennon, Chair of the Board of Trustees. “Anjali brings strategic vision, CEO experience, operational excellence and a passion for our Y’s mission.” Anjali has a deep knowledge of what makes this community so special. At the Westport Weston Family YMCA, Anjali led the organization to tremendous growth during the challenging times of COVID-19. Under her tenure, membership grew to its maximum capacity and new programs and services were launched to better meet the needs of the community. Since returning to the Summit Area YMCA, Anjali has already taken meaningful steps to strengthen the organization — including adding key leadership staff positions designed to enhance support for members and deliver innovative, high-quality programming for people of all ages.

“I am so humbled and honored to return home to my roots to lead the Summit Area YMCA, especially on the cusp of its 140th anniversary,” said Anjali McCormick. “As I’ve seen as both a staff member and a local resident, the Y makes meaningful changes in people’s lives, and I am deeply grateful and energized about continuing that legacy and leading this treasured community resource through growth and increased impact.”

In 1886, we were founded as the Young Men’s Christian Association, but today, we are The Y; an association that values, and is made stronger by, its diverse people. We stand for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility — For a better us. We are committed to creating equal opportunity for all regardless of gender, age, disability, income, ethnicity, sexual orientation or religious affiliation. We strive to create a welcoming and inclusive culture in which our four core values — responsibility, honesty, caring and respect — are integral to everyday operations.

Each year, as one of the area’s leading 501(c)3 charitable organizations, the Summit Area YMCA serves more than 15,000 individuals with our free and fee-based programs and services in an area spanning the New Jersey communities of Berkeley Heights, Gillette, Millburn, New Providence, Short Hills, Springfield, Stirling and Summit. Our history is rooted in working side-by-side with our neighbors to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. Through the generosity of our members, donors, and partners, we are able to offer financial assistance for our programs and services to those in need.
