Anjali McCormick Rejoins Summit Area YMCA as Interim CEO, Bringing Visionary Leadership and Renewed Energy

SUMMIT, NJ – Former Summit resident and YMCA leader Anjali Rao McCormick will be returning to the Summit Area YMCA as interim CEO on Monday, March 10. Anjali brings with her experience as CEO of the Westport Weston Family YMCA, where she led the organization through the trying times of COVID-19 and the celebration of its 100-year anniversary. Prior to her time at the Westport YMCA, Anjali dedicated more than a decade to the Summit Area YMCA, first as the director of marketing and more recently as the senior vice president and COO.

“On behalf of the entire Summit Area YMCA Board of Trustees, I share our excitement to welcome back Anjali to our community,” said Board of Trustees Chair Maria Brugg. “Her extensive leadership experience, deep knowledge of the larger Summit area, and business acumen as a graduate of Harvard University with an MBA from New York University will help us forge new paths during this transitional period for our nearly 140-year history.”

Over the last decade, the Summit Area YMCA built a new 42,000-square-foot state-of-the-art Berkeley Heights YMCA, completed a significant renovation of the Summit YMCA, successfully navigated through COVID, strengthened the offerings of The Learning Circle YMCA child development center, and established a partnership to operate the Springfield Community Pool.  The YMCA continues to expand, serving a larger number of members in our service area.

“I’m excited to return to the special place where my YMCA journey began, first as a member and then as a staff member,” said incoming Interim CEO Anjali McCormick. “The Summit Area YMCA is a community treasure. I look forward to working with the Board and dedicated team of professionals to chart a path for even greater relevance, impact, and success.”

In 1886, we were founded as the Young Men’s Christian Association, but today, we are The Y; an association that values, and is made stronger by, its diverse people. We stand for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility — For a better us. We are committed to creating equal opportunity for all regardless of gender, age, disability, income, ethnicity, sexual orientation or religious affiliation. We strive to create a welcoming and inclusive culture in which our four core values — responsibility, honesty, caring and respect — are integral to everyday operations.

Each year, as one of the area’s leading 501(c)3 charitable organizations, the Summit Area YMCA serves more than 15,000 individuals with our free and fee-based programs and services in an area spanning the New Jersey communities of Berkeley Heights, Gillette, Millburn, New Providence, Short Hills, Springfield, Stirling and Summit. Our history is rooted in working side-by-side with our neighbors to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. Through the generosity of our members, donors, and partners, we are able to offer financial assistance for our programs and services to those in need.

Please note that the section of Maple Street closest to the Summit YMCA will be closed from approximately 7 AM to 11 AM on Sunday, May 5, for our Mother’s Day 5K. Please use Cedar Street to access the public lot that is next to our building.
