Staying active and aging well go hand in hand, and we’re excited to invite our active older adult community to a special series: Aging Well, designed to support strength, balance, and overall wellness.

This upcoming workshop series offers a friendly, informative space to explore the many resources the Y provides to help you feel your best at every age. We’ll talk about movement routines that support mobility, balance exercises that promote stability, and simple lifestyle habits that can make a meaningful difference in long-term health. You’ll also learn about illness prevention strategies and wellness offerings at the Summit Area YMCA.

And of course, wellness is about more than just physical activity. Connect with others in our community, and discover the variety of Y programs that support social engagement and a sense of belonging.

If you’re looking to stay active, maintain strength, and continue enjoying the things you love, this series is the perfect place to start. Join us for an afternoon of learning, connection, and inspiration as we explore all the ways the Y supports vibrant living at every age.

Aging Well Workshop

Aging Well Workshop - Healthy Heart

This session will explore how much exercise your heart truly needs, highlight simple exercises you can do at work or at home, and break down the benefits of walking for heart health. It will also focus on the connection between stress and cardiovascular risk, featuring guided breathing and mindfulness, practical stress-reduction strategies, and sleep hygiene tips to support a healthy heart.

Aging Well Workshop

Aging Well Workshop - InBody Screening

Participants will gain a clear understanding of body composition metrics such as skeletal muscle mass, lean body mass, weight distribution, segmental muscle and fat analysis, BMI, and body fat percentage, and what they reveal about the body. The session will also show how to use this information to optimize workouts and train more effectively based on individual results.

Aging Well Workshop - Nutrition For Energy

Key nutrition topics will cover protein needs as we age, common hydration myths, energy crashes and blood sugar balance, and the connection between inflammation and joint health. The discussion will also include examples of balanced plates and practical, budget-friendly meal options.
