For many of the hundreds of people who pour through the doors of the Summit YMCA every day, the Hubbard Gym is like a second home. This space is more than a place to shoot hoops, challenge friends to a game of pickleball, or cheer on preschoolers during t-ball practice. It’s also a safe haven for teens after school, a meeting point for seniors wanting to bond with neighbors, and an event space for enriching cultural events that celebrate the vibrant diversity of our community.
Thanks to generous individuals and families who recently invested in transforming this historic space, the Hubbard Gym is equipped with gleaming new floors that are ready to welcome many more generations to come.
Among those who believed in this vision was none other than the members of the Hubbard family. Decades after the gym was named in honor of lifelong Summit resident and local philanthropist G. Morrison Hubbard, Jr., his granddaughter, Remy Jacobs, toured the space that her grandfather gifted this community. Together with other members of the Hubbard family, Remy made a leadership gift to help fund new flooring that dramatically brightened up the space. Thanks to their philanthropy and all our donors who contributed to this project, wall mats and new basketball hoops are on their way to enhance the gym even further over the next few weeks.
We are beyond grateful to Remy, her family, and everyone who has donated to make our flagship building the modern, flexible place that it is.
As we put the finishing touches on the gym and upgraded third floor, we also look ahead to renovate the men’s and women’s locker rooms in 2025. If you’re interested in supporting these capital improvements, please visit https://www.thesay.org/capital-campaign/, or click below.
