How to Become A Volunteer
What Can You Do?
Take an active role in bringing about meaningful,enduring change right in your own neighborhood.
To volunteer with the Y, select an option:
- Visit one of our branches and pick up and complete a Volunteer Application at the Membership Services desk. If available, the Branch Volunteer Coordinator may speak with you during your visit or will call you within 48 hours to discuss your interests.
- DOWNLOAD a volunteer application form and either email to Jenny or send by mail to Jenny McMahon, Volunteer Coordinator, Summit Area YMCA, 490 Morris Ave, Summit, NJ 07901. Once your application is received, it will be forwarded to the Branch Volunteer Coordinator at your preferred location who will contact you within 48 hours to discuss your interests and schedule an interview.
To ensure the highest level of safety for our members and children, we are very careful with our employee and volunteer selection. Most volunteer positions will require your completion of new volunteer paperwork and online training, along with reference checks and your approval for a criminal background check. Special event volunteers are generally required to complete only the Volunteer Data Sheet and understand the job’s responsibilities.
