Maintains constant surveillance of the water, deck and pool areas at all times. Actively scans the pool to achieve a 10 x 10 reaction time. Knows, understands and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Maintains a professional attitude and appearance. Be on time and in proper uniform/equipment for each shift. Maintains effective relationships with the members, participants, and other staff. Give 100% attention to the patrons and operation of the pool area. Be alert, vigilant and conscientious. Maintain current certifications (Lifeguard, CPR-PR, First-Aid) Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with Y policies and procedures. Completes related reports as required. Knows all Aquatic Department policies and procedures and adheres to them. Helps in maintaining pool area, including testing (chlorine and pH readings), cleaning, equipment and chemicals and completes all appropriate forms (accident report, fecal/vomitus report) thoroughly and legibly and in a timely manner. Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed. Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.
Must have a current certificate in YMCA, BSA, American Red Cross Lifeguard, Professional Rescuer CPR/AED and First Aid.
Must attend and pass certification classes offered for Emergency Oxygen Administration, Asthma Inhaler and Epi-Pen Administration within 6 months of hire.
