Founded in 1886, the Summit Area YMCA is one of the area’s leading 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations. Committed to nurturing the potential of every individual, promoting healthy living and fostering a sense of social responsibility, our history is steeped in working side-by-side with our neighbors to ensure that everyone, regardless of age, income and background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. We are a cause driven, volunteer led, nonprofit organization working to support and strengthen the foundations of community.
The Berkeley Heights Community Pool, was established in 1964 by a group of residents who wanted to provide a safe, fun, relaxing summer setting for the town to enjoy, the Berkeley Heights Community Pool has served families in Berkeley Heights and surrounding neighborhoods every summer since then.
In 2016, the Berkeley Heights Community Pool was under the supervision and advisement of the Summit Area YMCA and as of 2017, the Summit Area YMCA adopted full management of the community with the pool taking on the name of the Berkeley Heights Community Pool at the YMCA. In 2019, the Summit Area YMCA broke ground on the 59 Locust Ave location in Berkeley Heights to construct a 40,000 square foot facility and an entirely new olympic-sized long-course outdoor pool. The new Berkeley Heights YMCA opened its doors on February 6, 2020.
Our brand new, state-of-the-art olympic-sized (50m x 25m) long course heated outdoor pool hosts members for leisure time, lap swim, summer camp, swim lessons, lifeguard training, water fitness, social events and competitive swim team training and meets. It is deep enough to accomodate two diving boards and will eventually include a family-friendly slide. We also have a kiddie pool for our youngest swimmers, conveniently located near a fenced in playground. In addition, The Berkeley Heights Community Pool at the YMCA is surrounded by beautiful grounds and landscaping. 
Our facility is staffed with lifeguards trained in the American Red Cross Lifeguarding program, as well as swim instructors that have been trained in the American Red Cross Water Safety Instruction program.
Because the Berkeley Heights Community Pool at the YMCA operates independently from the Township of Berkeley Heights, it is not subsidized. Membership fees fund the entire facility and are determined by estimated costs to do so.
