ACTIVTRAX

ActivTrax is a web based program for exercise, weight management, and progress tracking that's also conveniently available through your smartphone! ActivTrax provides you with powerful adaptive technology to help you succeed. All workouts are customized using your personal profile settings and our equipment library to meet your unique goals, experience and preferences. An ActivTrax account is free with your YMCA membership and takes all the guesswork out of your next workout. Available at the Summit YMCA.

BARRE

Barre classes offer the very best of Yoga, Ballet, and Pilates. These fun but challenging classes will compliment any regular fitness routine. Precise movements given by your instructor will build new muscles and develop your strength in areas you didn’t even know existed, assisting with weight loss and reducing stress!

BASKETBALL

The Summit Area YMCA has basketball programs for all ages and levels. We teach the basic skills and rules of the sport to youth, with a specific focus on the important values of sportsmanship and teamwork. Join a clinic to improve your skills, join a league to compete and unleash the basketball star inside you or shoot some casual hoops and play a pickup game with other members! The Summit YMCA offers 4 sessions a week exclusively for adults and open gym sessions at least twice a day, so you can enjoy hours of basketball, volleyball, soccer and more -- everyday!

BFIT

Sometimes getting healthier can be difficult and can even be daunting for individuals beginning to exercise—but the Y is here to make it easy and approachable for you! BFIT is a free 4 week Beginner Fitness program aimed to help you get healthier by having a BFIT Coach work with you to develop a plan in achieving your short term fitness goals and helping you turn them into a long term, healthy lifestyle. Available at the Berkeley Heights YMCA.

BLOOD PRESSURE SELF MONITORING

Aka “The Silent Killer”, high blood pressure puts us at risk for heart disease and stroke, currently the leading causes of death in the US today. Our Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring Program provides you with a coach who will train you on how to monitor your blood pressure, share personalized health and nutrition education and ongoing support. Healthy living is at the forefront of the Y's mission and today, we're encouraging you to take action to improve your heart health.

BRIDGE

All area residents are ages 18+ are invited to play Duplicate Bridge friends every Wednesday, 12:00 PM - 2:30 PM at the Summit YMCA. This program is free for members and $15 per visit for non-members. An experienced instructor will provide a quick lesson and be available to discuss hands. Advanced players preferred.

CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION

The YMCA has partnered with Darkness to Light to bring the Stewards of Children Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Training to our communities. This two-hour FREE training session is designed to educate adults on how to recognize, prevent, and react responsibly to the reality of child sexual abuse, emphasizing child safety and prevention is every adult’s responsibility.

CHILDCARE

The Summit Area YMCA provides a nurturing, happy and safe environment where children have the ability to discover their potential and develop their skills. We offer childcare, early education, before and after school care for children as young as 6 weeks old through grade school to accommodate the schedules of working parents at our Berkeley Heights Childcare Center, Summit YMCA, and The Learning Circle YMCA Childcare Center.

COMMUNITY GARDEN

The mission of the Summit ACHIEVE Community Garden is to bring our neighbors together to share the benefits of organic gardening for a healthier community. The fenced in garden located on Beauvoir Place has 52 raised beds available for our community members to grow organic vegetables, fruits, and herbs to promote healthy eating and provide excess vegetables to our neighbors who visit the Saint Teresa Food Pantry.

CPR TRAINING

Our Y strengthens the fiber of our community through training that includes CPR, First Aid, Lifeguard, Water Safety that improve the health, safety and well-being of others. This valuable training also helps develop skills that may open doors to employment opportunities and that enable you to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies.

CYCLING

With invigorating music, a fun atmosphere and a bike, indoor cycling is an intense full body workout where you can burn up to 900 calories per class! Regardless of how fit, flexible or coordinated you are, you'll get a great workout in any of our indoor cycling classes. Simply hop on your bike, set the resistance to the level that's right for you, and let your instructor guide and motivate you through the class.

DANCE

Choose from a variety of group exercise dance classes to get a highly activated workout! Try the steps to popular Bollywood moves, or shake your hips and burn lots of calories in Zumba! We also offer the occasional Adult Ballet class at the Berkeley Heights YMCA. Dancing is a great way to stay fit for people of all fitness levels, with a wide range of benefits for the mind, body and spirit!

GROUP EXERCISE

Find your passion or try something new! The Y offers over 100+ group exercise and fitness classes for all ages, all levels and all interests. From low-impact exercise like Ageless Grace and Shallow Water Arthritis to LES MILLS™ programs like CXWORX and BODY COMBAT, we offer High Intensity Interval Training classes like INSANITY and Cardio HIIT 45, and more relaxing classes like Vinyasa Yoga, Barre Sculpt & Pilates! There's something for everybody, no matter what your schedule is like.

HEALTHY HEARTS CARDIAC MAINTENANCE

Directed by nationally certified trainers, this FREE program meets twice a week for 12 weeks to focus on cardiovascular exercise, build muscle strength and work on flexibility in a small group non-medically supervised setting. The program is open to anyone wishing to improve or maintain cardiovascular health, whether or not they have had a cardiac event.

H.I.I.T.

Many people, especially those with busy schedules, love High Intensity Interval Training because they're able to earn maximum work out benefits in a very short period of time! While many of these classes can be challenging, our instructors provide modifications in movements to make it possible for all fitness levels. We offer a variety of H.I.I.T. classes like Insanity, Cardio HIIT 45, Cardio Surge and more.

KIDZONE (ONSITE BABYSITTING)

Available to our family members, we provide up to two hours of free supervised playtime in a safe, enriching environment through non-structured, age appropriate play activities so your little one can develop social skills while you make time for your own development. The safety of your children is our top priority. Parents, teachers and students with education and training in child development make up our team of dedicated staff. All staff are trained in and certified in infant and adult CPR and First Aid.

LAP SWIM

The Summit YMCA has two heated indoor 25 yard pools for lap swim, group exercise, swim lessons and more. Lap Swim is available multiple times a day, each and everyday. View our schedules to find a time that works best for you!

LIFEGUARD TRAINING

Join us at the Summit YMCA and get certified by the American Red Cross to be a lifeguard! Learn the skills and knowledge to perform water rescues. Participants who successfully complete the course receive a certification in Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR, and AED for the Professional Rescuer that is valid for 2 years.

LIVESTRONG AT THE YMCA

The LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA program was created to improve and assist the lives of people affected by cancer by helping survivors rebuild confidence, muscle mass and strength, increase flexibility, endurance, and functional ability and provide a welcoming community where they can connect meaningfully with other survivors. This FREE 12-week small group recovery program for adult cancer survivors runs year round.

LUNCH & LEARN LECTURES

The Y offers a variety of educational "lunch & learn" lectures throughout the year that cover subjects like wellness, technology, social issues, education and more. Enjoy interactive discussions with friends and other members, along with a light lunch. Free to members, open to the community.

Join your Summit Area YMCA friends each week for an afternoon of Mahjong - the Ancient Chinese Tile Game available at the Berkeley Heights YMCA & Summit YMCA! Connect with others and engage your mind with this fun, intelligent game that requires your concentration, skill and planning. Please bring your Mahjong cards!

MARTIAL ARTS/SELF-DEFENSE

Punch, block and kick your way to a healthier you! Our Martial Arts programs include a variety of classes that will provide you with the skills to defend and disable, increase your aerobic endurance, balance and coordination. We also offer the super popular Les Mills Body Combat class, a high-energy martial arts-inspired workout that allows you to punch and kick your way to fitness and burn up to 740 calories* in under an hour. Learn moves from Karate, Taekwondo, Boxing, Muay Thai and Capoeira!

MEDITATION

Anxious, stressed, a busy mind? Learn how to find peace, relaxation and stillness by going within. PARENT'S NIGHT OUT

In an effort to empower those living with Parkinson's disease, the Summit Area YMCA now offers exercise classes that help individuals manage their quality of life, coordination, range of motion, flexibility, and more. PICKLEBALL

Pickleball, created for all skill levels, combines elements of tennis, ping pong and badminton and is said to be the fastest growing sport in America. The rules are simple, the game is easy to learn, it's tons of fun and a decent workout. Weekly pickleball classes are offered at the Summit YMCA for all levels from beginner through advanced levels.

PILATES

Pilates at the Summit Area YMCA offers a chance to experience a new type of workout similar to yoga. These classes are low impact and will help with building strength while focusing on stretching and balance work. PING PONG

Ping Pong is not just a leisurely past time, but a great way to fit a workout into your day while having fun! Members will be able to enjoy an invigorating and fun ping pong class at both the Berkeley Heights YMCA and the Summit YMCA. In this class, you will learn the basics of the game, techniques, how to score and have tons of fun! No experience necessary.

Move beyond the basics by working with a personal trainer/coach and receive personalized attention in a small group format at the Summit YMCA! Small group training is a fun, effective and affordable way to reach your fitness goals. SOCCER

The Summit YMCA offers both Adult & Youth Soccer for you to unleash your inner soccer star! Adults can meet friends, unwind, de-stress and have fun while enjoying the sport the Hubbard Gym at the Summit Y. We offer 2 Adult Soccer sessions a week exclusively for members, but open gym runs at least twice a day, where you can enjoy hours of basketball, volleyball, soccer and more.

SUMMER CAMP

Summer Camps at the Summit Area YMCA provide children ages 3 years to 16 years with safe and exciting opportunities to explore, learn, create and discover the world around them. Under the guidance of caring, enthusiastic, trained staff members, children will create lasting friendships and lifelong memories, and find positive role models to look up to. With over 50+ camp choices, accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA) the Summit Area YMCA offers a variety of options designed to meet your child’s interests and passions every week of summer!

SWIM

The Summit Area YMCA offers a variety of swim offerings, private lessons, lap swim, lifeguard training, water exercise and more. TRX

TRX training makes use of special suspension straps or cables and leverages gravity with the user’s body weight to develop strength, endurance, balance, flexibility and core stability, while also building and toning muscle. ZUMBA®

Zumba® is an exciting fitness class inspired by Latin dance. Zumba® consists of Latin rhythms with cardiovascular exercise to create an aerobic routine that is fun and easy to follow. The name Zumba is derived from a Spanish word meaning "buzz like a bee and move fast". Dancing is a great way to stay fit for people of all fitness levels, with a wide range of benefits for the mind, body and spirit! You don’t have to know how to dance, just bring your enthusiasm and we'll help with the rest!
