Volunteens Program

JULY 5 – JULY 29, 2022 | 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Earn volunteer hours and gain experience working with a non-profit like the Summit Area YMCA!

VolunTEENS is a 4-week summer program that provides the young adults in our community (high school students grades 8 -12) with opportunities to learn the importance of using their strengths and skills to help or serve others, especially to those in need. Participants are required to commit 4-weeks to the program and will be assigned to tasks at off-site volunteer locations based on their interests and skill set. The program runs Monday-Thursday and the schedule varies by location between 9:00 AM-12:00 PM. Volunteers are responsible for their own transportation to off-site volunteer locations. Upon program completion all volunteers receive community service certifications and are treated to lunch.

What Do VolunTeens Do?

As a VolunTEEN, you will have a chance to experience different volunteer opportunities with the Y for example, assisting with youth sports, swim and childcare programs, sorting or distributing food at community events like the food bank, cleaning up our community garden, organizing clothing drives, off-site cleanups, hosting activities at the local senior center, creating content for marketing and social media and more.

After successfully completing the program, many VolunTEENS continue gifting their time at other YMCA events that call for volunteers.

HOW TO APPLY

1. For minors under the age of 18, please have your parent/guardian complete and sign the Volunteer Application online. Be sure to select Volunteens, under the volunteer interests section.

YMCA NEWS

SUMMIT AREA YMCA

BERKELEY HEIGHTS YMCA | SUMMIT YMCA | THE LEARNING CIRCLE YMCA

In 1886, we were founded as the Young Men’s Christian Association, but today, we are The Y; an association that values, and is made stronger by, its diverse people. We stand for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility — For a better us. We are committed to creating equal opportunity for all regardless of gender, age, disability, income, ethnicity, sexual orientation or religious affiliation. We strive to create a welcoming and inclusive culture in which our four core values — responsibility, honesty, caring and respect — are integral to everyday operations.

Each year, as one of the area’s leading 501(c)3 charitable organizations, the Summit Area YMCA serves more than 15,000 individuals with our free and fee-based programs and services in an area spanning the New Jersey communities of Berkeley Heights, Gillette, Millburn, New Providence, Short Hills, Springfield, Stirling and Summit. Our history is rooted in working side-by-side with our neighbors to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. Through the generosity of our members, donors, and partners, we are able to offer financial assistance for our programs and services to those in need.

Please note that the Hurst Pool at the Summit YMCA will be closed on Sunday, March 31, 2024 and will reopen on Monday, April 8, 2024 due to regularly scheduled maintenance. Group Ex Pro will reflect amended aquatics schedules.
