7TH GRADE INITIATIVE

The Summit Area YMCA offers free memberships to all local seventh graders in our service area. 7th Grade is a pivotal and transitional time for many teens. We are committed to supporting and encouraging youth to make good decisions and form healthy habits that lead to a healthy lifestyle. The 7th Grade Membership program provides opportunities for fitness and sports, as well as an opportunity to socialize with peers in a safe, supervised, and conveniently located environment.

CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION

The YMCA has partnered with numerous organizations to bring child abuse awareness and prevention to our communities. At the Summit Area YMCA, we stand committed to providing a safe environment for everyone who enters our doors or participates in our programs, most importantly the safety and well-being of children entrusted to our care. Through training sessions, community resources, and workshops, the Y educates adults on how to recognize, prevent, and react responsibly to the reality of child sexual abuse, emphasizing child safety and prevention is every adult’s responsibility.

EDUCATIONAL LECTURES

The Y offers a variety of educational “lunch & learn” lectures throughout the year that cover subjects like health and wellness, technology, social issues, education and more. Enjoy interactive discussions with friends and other members. All are welcome to join.

HEALTHY HEARTS CARDIAC MAINTENANCE

Directed by nationally certified trainers, this FREE program meets twice a week for 12 weeks to focus on cardiovascular exercise, build muscle strength and work on flexibility in a small group non-medically supervised setting. The program is open to anyone wishing to improve or maintain cardiovascular health, whether or not they have had a cardiac event.

LIVESTRONG AT THE YMCA

The LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA program was created to improve and assist the lives of people affected by cancer by helping survivors rebuild confidence, muscle mass and strength, increase flexibility, endurance, and functional ability and provide a welcoming community where they can connect meaningfully with other survivors. This FREE 12-week small group recovery program for adult cancer survivors runs year round.

MILITARY MEMBERSHIP

The Summit Area YMCA offers a Military Outreach Initiative to address the needs of families of deployed military personnel who live far from a military installation and require access to child development, family strengthening, and health and well-being programming. Eligible military families and personnel include active duty or deployed personnel of the Armed Services, their spouses and families (dependent children). FREE military memberships are given in 6 month intervals and are renewed by request.

PARKINSON’S PROGRAM

In an effort to empower those living with Parkinson’s disease, the Summit Area YMCA now offers exercise classes that help individuals manage their quality of life, coordination, range of motion, flexibility, and more. Our program incorporates the newest research principles in aerobic training and movement to retrain and optimize function for individuals with balance and movement disorders.

SECOND GRADE LEARN TO SWIM

Here at the Y, we believe all children should know how to swim and be safe in and around water. For this reason, we offer the 2nd Grade Learn to Swim Program for non-swimmers at no cost. Make safety your priority and have your 2nd Grader learn to swim for free with the Summit Area YMCA! Together, we can help adults, parents and kids increase knowledge, ability and stamina to build smart, strong swimmers and confident kids.

SUMMIT AREA YMCA

BERKELEY HEIGHTS YMCA | SUMMIT YMCA | THE LEARNING CIRCLE YMCA

In 1886, we were founded as the Young Men’s Christian Association, but today, we are The Y; an association that values, and is made stronger by, its diverse people. We stand for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility — For a better us. We are committed to creating equal opportunity for all regardless of gender, age, disability, income, ethnicity, sexual orientation or religious affiliation. We strive to create a welcoming and inclusive culture in which our four core values — responsibility, honesty, caring and respect — are integral to everyday operations.

Each year, as one of the area’s leading 501(c)3 charitable organizations, the Summit Area YMCA serves more than 15,000 individuals with our free and fee-based programs and services in an area spanning the New Jersey communities of Berkeley Heights, Gillette, Millburn, New Providence, Short Hills, Springfield, Stirling and Summit. Our history is rooted in working side-by-side with our neighbors to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. Through the generosity of our members, donors, and partners, we are able to offer financial assistance for our programs and services to those in need.
