MAKE A SPLASH! REGISTER FOR OUR NEW SEA LION SPECIAL OLYMPICS SWIM TEAM!

Get ready to make a splash!

The Summit Area YMCA is excited to announce the possibility of a Special Olympics Swim Team for our community. We are laying the groundwork for a successful program and inviting adaptive swimmers of all levels to join us. Although this is a developmental year for the team, we are committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all swimmers. Our primary focus is on building a sense of community while honing swimming skills and techniques.

To join the team, you must be familiar with at least one of the four competitive strokes (Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Butterfly), have the ability to tolerate water on your face and eyes, and wear goggles for the entirety of practices. Our first day of practice is April 21, 2023, and we are accepting all necessary paperwork in-person by April 14, 2023. The developmental team will run from April 21 to June 16, 2023, during which time we will concentrate on improving skills and techniques while fostering camaraderie among team members.

We are thrilled to embark on this new endeavor and welcome you to join us in using the power of swimming to make a difference. Our Summit Sea Lions Team believes that every swimmer, regardless of experience level, can benefit from participating in our program. By joining our team, individuals with intellectual disabilities can experience the joy of swimming and competition while being part of something truly special. Come and be a part of our community and help us build a successful program!

SUMMIT AREA YMCA

BERKELEY HEIGHTS YMCA | SUMMIT YMCA | THE LEARNING CIRCLE YMCA

In 1886, we were founded as the Young Men's Christian Association, but today, we are The Y. An association that values and is made stronger by, its diverse people. We stand for youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility — For a better us. We are committed to creating equal opportunity for all regardless of gender, age, disability, income, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or religious affiliation. We strive to create a welcoming and inclusive culture in which our four core values — responsibility, honesty, caring, and respect — are integral to everyday operations.

Each year, as one of the area’s leading 501(c)3 charitable organizations, the Summit Area YMCA serves more than 15,000 individuals with our free and fee-based programs and services in an area spanning the New Jersey communities of Berkeley Heights, Gillette, Millburn, New Providence, Short Hills, Springfield, Stirling, and Summit. Our history is rooted in working side-by-side with our neighbors to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. Through the generosity of our members, donors, and partners, we are able to offer financial assistance for our programs and services to those in need.
