The Happiest Place for Kids to Grow

For more than 85 years, the Summit Area YMCA has provided our community’s children with safe and exciting opportunities to explore, learn, create, and discover the world around them. To prevent summer learning loss, the Y is here to stimulate and encourage creativity and individuality in every camper.

It’s almost January now, but is never too early to start planning for a memorable summer. In fact, let’s escape the brisk winter air by picturing what this summer will look like at the Summit Area YMCA for kids & teens ages 3-16. Summer is a time for kids to grow and further explore their interests. From June through September, your child will be able to do just that and more at the Y. With over 40 camps to choose from, ranging in traditional, outdoor, travel, art, dance, music, science, technology, robotics, engineering, agriculture, sports, and much more, you surely won’t be hearing the phrase, “I’m bored,” this summer.

Summer camp registration opens with early bird pricing on Monday, January 9, 2023.

Top 4 Perks of Summers at the Summit Area YMCA

1. Foster Growth

Camps at the Y are meticulously crafted and developed to ensure each child will end the summer knowing something new. Whether it be a factual piece of information or a personal one, your child will explore and test their own skills and self-confidence. The Y’s programs inspire campers to embrace the Y’s core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. More importantly, campers are challenged to grow physically, mentally, and socially by gaining an appreciation for other perspectives. Ultimately allowing them to become better friends, students, and leaders, all while having fun!

2. Promote Healthy Living

Ensuring that your child stays active during the summer will optimize their physical and mental well-being. Under the guidance of caring, enthusiastic, trained staff members, Y campers will learn the importance of healthy living, make lifelong memories, and find positive role models to look up to.

3. Develop Lifelong Skills

Summer camp at the Y is an investment in your child’s future. At camp, children participate in a variety of activities that promote independence, leadership, communication, and a sense of community and acceptance. Needless to say, your child will end the summer with a new set of skills that will last them a lifetime.

4. A SAFE & SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT

The Summit Area YMCA takes pride in providing safe places for children to grow in skills and self-confidence all year round. The Summit Area YMCA summer camps follow guidelines from the American Camp Association and New Jersey Department of Health. Safety policies and procedures for summer camps at The Learning Circle YMCA are under guidance of the New Jersey Department of Children and Families Office of Licensing and Department of Health. Both are under care of our caring, supportive, and well trained staff. Learn more on how the Y keeps your children safeguarded against abuse through staff trainings, protocols, and ongoing knowledge of awareness and prevention here

OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL

As a nonprofit, the Summit Area YMCA is committed to enhancing the lives of individuals and families in our community. We do so by offering financial assistance to those with demonstrated need so that they may enjoy all the Y has to offer, regardless of their ability to pay. This helps us ensure that everyone, regardless of age, income, or background can learn, grow, and thrive. Families with low or moderate household income or those who are experiencing financial hardship are encouraged to apply. Applicants must live or work in the Summit Area YMCA service area which includes Berkeley Heights, Gillette, Millburn, New Providence, Short Hills, Springfield, Stirling, and Summit. Financial assistance can be used for membership, childcare, summer camp, enrichment, sports programs and more where additional fees apply, such as soccer and swimming lessons.
