Summit Area YMCA offers Citizenship Group Study Sessions at the Summit Public Library

As the first Global Center of Excellence in New Jersey, the Summit Area YMCA has made a commitment to the community in driving diversity, inclusion and global engagement. As a globally minded Y, we endeavor to include a global context into all aspects of organizational planning and execution. At the core of our cause and mission, we believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. This belief drives our services and programs, and allows the Y to be a place where all are welcome.

The Summit Area YMCA addresses the growing need for help in preparing for citizenship within the country by partnering with the Summit Public Library to offer a free citizenship study group. Any interested community member eligible for citizenship is invited to attend and participate in our sessions. Together, members will practice for all 100 questions for the test as well as learn the process and procedure for applying for naturalization. The group meets for 6 sessions, Wednesdays from 11-12pm at the library.

The benefits of becoming a United States Citizen include:
• The Right to Vote
• A Chance to Reunite Families
• A Way to Protect your Children's Right to Remain in the U.S.
• Protection in Cases Involving Illegal Activity
• International Travel Made Easier
• And much, much more.

“Here at the YMCA, we recognized a growing need for a citizenship study group to help eligible immigrants study for the naturalization test. Students will work together each week to practice the questions together, learn the application procedures, and get access to valuable free materials they might not otherwise have access to.” said Julie Wagenblast, Teen Director at the Summit YMCA. “These study groups not only help with preparing for the test, but also allow for a global exchange of ideas and experiences for the participants whether they are there to get help or to provide help. Our goal is to help community members feel more prepared for both the test and living life as an American citizen, and I’m proud to be part of an organization that can help make this happen for our community and its members.”
