This holiday season, the Summit Area YMCA joins the #ShareKindness initiative, an initiative championed by the YMCA of the USA and the NBC TODAY Show to inspire 1 million acts of kindness in one month from viewers across the country. As part of the initiative, the Y has committed to share 10,000 acts of kindness representing the 10,000 communities that the Y serves.
The Summit Area YMCA will be spreading acts of kindness this holiday season in a variety of ways as well. Some featured donation drives at the SAY involve knitting workshops to create and donate knitted items and collecting mittens for Family Promise on the Holiday Mitten Tree at the Berkeley Heights YMCA. At the Summit YMCA, individuals can donate to gift drives for less fortunate families on the Holiday Angel Tree and local animal shelters. In the season of giving, the Summit Area YMCA encourages members and non-members of the community to stretch more than just their muscles in the Y facilities this winter, to find compassion and give kindness to help those in need during the cold winter season.
The Summit Area YMCA is also hosting the annual Curémonos Holiday Cheer Celebration for the fourth year in a row, an event that provides holiday gifts, activities and happiness to breast cancer patients in active treatment who are facing financial difficulties. The event also accepts donations of Target, Walmart, and ShopRite gift cards.
