The Summit Area YMCA has over 40+ unique summer camps providing children of all ages and interests, with days of safe and exciting opportunities to explore, learn, create and discover the world around them! From your traditional favorites to the creative arts, new specialty science camps, video game design camps and more, there's something for everyone at the Y!

EXPLORE CAMP

Under the guidance of caring, enthusiastic, trained staff members, Y campers will create lasting friendships, lifelong memories, and find positive role models to look up to. According to the American Camp Association, “Camps and other youth development programs provide the opportunity to reduce summer learning loss in an expanded learning environment where children are engaged experientially and have an opportunity for additional academic enrichment.” Camp is also a place where children can unplug from technology and enjoy just being a kid. Children grow, laugh and play in camp while building confidence, resiliency and friendship!

Our programs inspire campers to embrace the Y’s core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility and challenge them to grow physically, mentally, and socially by gaining an appreciation for other perspectives, encouraging campers to become better friends, students and leaders and, of course, to have fun!

“I felt reassured knowing that the Y camps were closely following all the CDC and Department of Health guidelines, and that our kids would have plenty of room to spread out and still safely be with their friends outside. After 3 and a half months in quarantine and just seeing their parents, they were bored out of their minds. The first day I picked them up from camp, they were like 2 different kids getting into the car. They couldn’t stop talking about everything they did and they were happier than I’ve seen them in months. They talked nonstop about going on hikes, swimming, playing games, winning awards for good behavior, playing a lot of different sports and having fun, and they absolutely adored their counselors. Camp is providing them with social experiences that us as parents can’t provide, like learning about teamwork, respect and sportsmanship—and they were able to enjoy it safely. We are so grateful for the Y!”
— Judy, Summit Area YMCA Camp Parent

For older children, the Y offers leadership camp programs like Leader’s in Training (LIT) where campers learn not only about leadership, but how to prepare resumes, perform CPR, work in teams and more. Our camps encourage campers to become better leaders and learn from the best positive role models!

Summit Area YMCA camps are designed with tons of fun for kids and convenience in mind for parents! Parents may drop-off and pick-up their children directly at their camp locations at the YMCA or off-site at the Watchung Reservation. Enjoy extended care for pre-camp & post-camp, available weeks 1-10 at the Berkeley Heights YMCA and the Summit YMCA. Bus transportation is available to and from the YMCA to bring campers between their specific off-site camp locations.

The Summit Area YMCA's summer camps are accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA), an independent body that establishes standards for key aspects of camp operation, program quality, health and safety of campers.

Under guidance from the American Camp Association and the New Jersey Department of Health (DOH) we have incorporated and implemented several new Camp Policies and Procedures based on the New Jersey COVID-19 Youth Day Camp Standards & Guidelines in order to to continue offering the safest and highest quality summer camp program. Keeping your child safe and secure remains our #1 priority. The YMCA will continue to share updates with registered participants if any programs and/or operations change as additional information is made available. Should you have specific questions, please contact us.
