The Summit Area YMCA will host its first Sundays in Motion program on Sunday, November 20; from 2 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. at the Y’s Summit branch, 67 Maple Street in Summit. Sundays in Motion is a free two-hour recreational program for children with autism and their families.
The program is open to the community and will include games and physical play, as well as open sensory activities in the Auditorium. Participants can also enjoy open swimming in the Buntin Pool of the Summit YMCA. Summit YMCA volunteers will be available to monitor and assist special needs participants in the gym and the pool.
Modeled after a program that began more than 20 years ago at the Somerset Hills YMCA, the newly adapted Sundays in Motion event enables families with special needs to have fun and stay healthy during the cold winter months.
“The program had proven itself to be very successful at the Somerset Hills YMCA, and we’re excited to introduce it to our community too,” says Anjali McCormick, Chief Marketing and Operations Officer of the Summit Area YMCA. “Children enjoyed it and parents really appreciated being together in a supportive, welcoming environment. The program not only provides a safe, social space for families and children with special needs to engage in fun, healthy physical activities, but also provides volunteers with a sense of making a meaningful impact in the community they serve.”
As a cause-driven organization focused on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the Summit Area YMCA is proud to offer quality programming designed to improve the foundations of community.
