The Summit Area YMCA’s Holiday Care program was in full swing when children visited Grow-A-Row farms in Pittstown, NJ. The farm’s mission is to positively impact as many lives as possible through a volunteer effort of planting, picking, rescuing and delivering free fresh produce to food banks and other organizations in need. Children enrolled in our Holiday Care program picked over 1,400 pounds of produce, an equivalent of 5,600 servings of fresh, healthy produce.
This Wednesday, Oct 12, the Holiday Care program will be visiting Alstede Farms where they will have an opportunity to pick pumpkins, go on a hayride, visit the petting zoo and complete their day with a pumpkin story and warm apple cider. The Y’s Holiday Care program (when the child’s school is closed and the child care programs are open) is offered so that working parents have the option of full day care (7am-6pm) without worry. New this year, is that non-participants of the Y’s after-school program can now enroll for Y Holiday Care at a daily rate.
The Y’s School Age Child Care programs are designed to meet the needs of working parents who need a safe, supervised and stimulating place for their children to be after school and before their parent or caregiver gets home. Students are bussed to the Y from their individual schools where, after a healthy snack and homework help, the children are encouraged to do physical exercise, participate in S.T.E.A.M. related activities, enjoy outdoor play, engage in seasonal projects and family activities. Optional enrichment classes such as swimming, rock climbing, sports, dance and cooking are also a unique component of the Y’s after school offerings. For families and individuals struggling financially, please inquire about the Y’s need-based financial assistance.
