Summer Scholastic Read-A-Palooza Virtual Book Fair

Summer is almost here and we cannot help but ask how can we as educators, caretakers and parents keep our kids academically engaged to ensure success this coming fall? However unlike previous years, this year presents the unique and unprecedented obstacle of being in the midst of a worldwide pandemic. This may mean libraries will not run their usual summer reading challenge, books may be harder to get a hold of and keeping children of all ages engaged will be an even steeper challenge. In order to help, the Berkeley Heights YMCA has teamed up with Scholastic to host a Virtual Book Fair or “Read-A-Palooza” from May 4 until September 4 2020. Order books, games, puzzles and more from the safety of your home. Don’t limit yourself to one order, this fair will continue through the entire summer so now is the perfect time to plan out reading goals and after every achievement you and your little ones can pick out new books to reach your next milestone. Proceeds from the book fair will go directly to the Berkeley Heights Branch’s Scholastic account, and will allow us to buy new books, games and activities for this coming school year.

Summer Read-A-Palooza doesn’t end with a virtual fair, Scholastic has also launched a new online resource for kids called “Home-Base.” As part of the nationwide Scholastic campaign to unite communities and celebrate reading for fun, Scholastic created a free digital destination which includes free full length books, live virtual events, and games in a safe fully monitored environment. Kids can track their reading streaks, and earn rewards which will unlock book donations, and interact with their favorite scholastic book characters.

* Shipping will take approximately 2 weeks as the warehouses are under new guidelines
