Training Future Leaders at the Y

The Summit Area YMCA (SAY) firmly believes that with the right tools and environment, any individual has the potential learn, grow and thrive. Beginning with youth and teens, the SAY offers a multitude of programs ranging from early childhood education to teen leadership programs and career counseling.
This summer, one of several engaging teen camp offerings include the Leaders in Training (LIT) program, a program designed to give teens (ages 14-16) the skills they need to enter the working world and become leaders in their community. Whether they’re interested in becoming a Y camp counselor or giving themselves that competitive edge, LIT is a great opportunity to gain self-confidence, learn how to work with children of all ages, and have fun all at the same time.

Teens are provided with weekly leadership and job professionalism trainings including resume building, CPR/First Aid training, preparing for an interview, etc. LITS are also placed in several camps throughout the week to learn from and work with experienced Y counselors. Finally, LITs also participate in weekly fieldtrips with other campers as part of their counselor training!
