The Summit Area YMCA offers a wide variety of summer camps designed to meet every interest and passion for every week of summer – from June 15 through August 28! Our summer camps are located at the Berkeley Heights YMCA, Berkeley Heights Community Pool at the YMCA, Summit YMCA, The Learning Circle YMCA and at the Watchung Reservation! We also have a variety of travel camps who visit and make memories all over the tri-state area.
Parents who cannot drop-off or pick up their children and teens at off-site camp locations may opt for YMCA bus transportation to and from the Y, bringing campers between their specific off-site camp locations. Plus we have extended care options at both the Berkeley Heights YMCA and the Summit YMCA for full and half day options.
For teens ages 14 – 16, we offer Teen Camps and leadership programs like Leader’s in Training (LIT). Our camps encourage campers to become better leaders and positive role models! Teens can have a blast on excursions to New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania in our most popular Teen Trek camp, while being supported and surrounded by positive role models to help them build important leadership and life skills.

Camp is a place where children can unplug from technology and enjoy just being a kid. Under the guidance of caring, enthusiastic, trained staff members, YMCA campers will create lasting friendships, lifelong memories, and find positive role models to look up to. According to the American Camp Association, “Camps and other youth development programs provide the opportunity to reduce summer learning loss in an expanded learning environment where children are engaged and have an opportunity for additional academic enrichment.” The Summit Area YMCA's summer camps are accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA), an independent body that establishes standards for key aspects of camp operation, program quality, health and safety of campers.
Our programs inspire campers to embrace the Y’s core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility and challenge them to grow physically, mentally, and socially by gaining an appreciation for other perspectives, encouraging campers to become better friends, students and leaders and, of course, to have tons of fun!
"Gary had such a good time at Summer Camp with the Y, he didn't want to come home and said if he could, he would go for a month. He loved the variety of activities he got to try—especially tubing down the Delaware, swimming, camping and archery. He made lots of friends. He loved the staff. He was so proud to receive the Best Athlete Award. The program has helped him stay active and engaged during the summer months, and he's made plenty of wonderful memories too." — Gary's grandmother, Summit Area YMCA Member
“My kids loved the positivity and enthusiasm of the camp counselors. It helped them settle physically and emotionally into their new environment, having recently moved from the west coast. My daughter loved the color wars, and my son learned sportsmanship and the value of kindness in Sports camp. Summer camp at the Summit Area YMCA became their home away from home. They will be back next year!”—Nancy, Parent and Summit Area YMCA Member
“My daughters Ayanna and Laetitia had a wonderful time at camp with the Y. Laetitia went to Mad Science camp and she would come back with a science experiment every day and talk about what she did with cylinders and pipettes. Being a scientist myself, I was enthralled by her enthusiasm and impressed that the Y actually hired professionals and experts from the related fields to teach and engage the children. Ayanna also loved Camp Cannundus and had a great time outdoors with all the team spirit and nature activities. Both of them enjoyed the Y for both the indoor and outdoor activities!” — Sonia, Parent and Summit Area YMCA Member
