Friday, June 17 marked a special day for 22 wonderful children as they sang and danced their way through their Kindergarten graduation at The Learning Circle YMCA. Parents, families, and friends gathered to the early education and child care center to celebrate their children’s achievements and watched as they performed a number of songs and poems in both English and Spanish.
The graduating class sang songs including “This Land is Your Land”, “Sing a Song”, “Buenos Dias a Ti” and more. The highlight of the ceremony was a performance based on popular British singer Taio Cruz’s “Dynamite “ song to end the program. The youngsters sang with glee and danced along with lyrics tweaked to suit the event:
“I put my hands up in the air sometimes, saying “hey-o” c’mon let’s go!
I wanna celebrate and graduate, saying “hey-o” c’mon let’s go.
Cause we rock this school, and we learn a lot, we will graduate, cause we’re dynamite!”
Proud laughing parents clapped and cheered for their children as the program came to a joyous end. The graduating class enjoyed lunch and refreshments at the on-site playground with their friends and family before dispersing to move on to their bright futures in grade school and beyond.
The All Day Kindergarten curriculum included a focus on language & reading, science, math, Spanish, art, computers and more. Not only were children academically focused in the classroom, they acquired the socialization skills necessary to develop independence and self-confidence through the guidance of positive role models, community service projects, and various social activities both in and out of the classroom. In addition, children participating in The Learning Circle YMCA also enjoy a healthy mix of playground and outdoor experiences, special field trips, participation in CATCH (a healthy living nutrition and exercise program), as well as weekly swim and gym classes at the Summit YMCA. The Summit Area YMCA believes that the integration of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility is important in not only building a well-rounded individual, but integral to the foundations of a stronger and better community.
