Join Us for the Second Annual 2019 PRIDE Celebration

The Summit Area YMCA, one of the first Diversity & Inclusion Global Innovation Networks in New Jersey, is proud to host their second annual CELEBRATE PRIDE event on June 14. 2019 at Columbia Park in Berkeley Heights.

From 4PM-7PM, participants can bring picnic blankets, food, friends and family to enjoy a day of community, fun, games, music and more! Information tables will be available to help the community learn more and better understand the LGBTQ movement and celebrate pride in our town. Should it rain, the event will move indoors to the Berkeley Heights YMCA, located at 550 Springfield Avenue, Berkeley Heights, NJ.

The Summit Area YMCA strives to provide a welcoming and inclusive environment where daily operations and programs support the well-being and safety of all individuals. We believe that with open conversations and learning opportunities in a safe environment will help our community become stronger and more inclusive with each passing day.

“Last year we finally had our very first Summit Area Y Pride event! It was a great success, and all involved were very proud of the event. We had lots of families, teens and community members join us for a beautiful afternoon of activities. We could not have asked for a more positive, supportive event.” said Francesca Garrard, Program Director at the Berkeley Heights YMCA. “Everyone was in great spirits, and it was just wonderful to see families, high school students, middle school students, and many other community members coming together to celebrate and show their support for each other and for the LGBTQ community. We are excited about this year’s event and hope it’s even bigger and better!”

The Summit Area YMCA is dedicated to providing the community with opportunities to ensure every individual regardless of ability, age, race, sexual orientation, background, faith, income or ethnicity has a chance to thrive and reach their full potential.

We have dedicated training for our staff to develop their understanding of biases and the many dimensions of diversity, in efforts to remove stereotypes, prejudice and discrimination in our society and better serve our community as a welcoming and supportive environment. The Summit Area YMCA hosts events like Welcoming Week, Holi Color Festival, Diwali Festival of Lights, Lunar New Year Festival, Special Needs Prom, adaptive swim lessons, yoga classes and various healthy living themed events for the Special Needs community in its inclusion efforts. Also providing financial assistance for individuals and families with demonstrated need towards programs, memberships and childcare.
