Summit, NJ— Now that the holidays are behind us and the days are starting to get longer, summer will be here in no time! At the Y, we strive to ensure your child has the best summer camp experience ever!
The Summit Area YMCA offers a wide variety of camp choices for children ages 3 – 16, designed to meet every interest and passion every week of summer – from June 17 through August 30! Featuring traditional favorites plus an assortment of specialty camps from sports and swimming to arts and science and everything in between, we surely have something for every child! We also offer full and half days plus extended care options.
To make camp a perfect fit for busy families, parents who cannot drop-off or pickup at off-site camp locations may opt for YMCA bus transportation to and from the Y, bringing campers between their specific off-site camp locations. There’s also extended care options at both the Berkeley Heights YMCA and the Summit YMCA plus full and half day options.
This summer, we are also excited to be debuting great one-of-a-kind specialty camps! Just a few out of the many choices include:

For older children ages 14 – 16, the Y offers Teen Camps and leadership programs like Leader’s in Training (LIT). Our camps encourage campers to become better leaders and positive role models! We also offer our ever-popular Teen Trek where teens enjoy daily excursions to New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Special Needs at the Summit Area YMCA is thoughtfully designed for children/teens with communication, social, behavioral and learning differences to thrive in a safe, friendly and supportive environment. Learn more about our Specialty Camp, Awesome Afternoon.
Under the guidance of caring, enthusiastic, trained staff members, Y campers will create lasting friendships, lifelong memories, and find positive role models to look up to. According to the American Camp Association, “Camps and other youth development programs provide the opportunity to reduce summer learning loss in an expanded learning environment where children are engaged and have an opportunity for additional academic enrichment.” Camp is a place where children can unplug from technology and enjoy just being a kid.
Our programs inspire campers to embrace the Y’s core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility and challenge them to grow physically, mentally, and socially by gaining an appreciation for other perspectives, encouraging campers to become better friends, students and leaders and, of course, to have tons of fun!
“My daughters Ayanna and Laetitia had a wonderful time at camp with the Y. Laetitia went to Mad Science camp and she would come back with a science experiment every day and talk about what she did with cylinders and pipettes. Being a scientist myself, I was enthralled by her enthusiasm and impressed that the Y actually hired professionals and experts from the related fields to teach and engage the children. Ayanna also loved Camp Cannundus and had a great time outdoors with all the team spirit and nature activities. Both of them enjoyed the Y for both the indoor and outdoor activities!” — Sonia Khullar-Hubert, Parent and Summit Area YMCA Member
