This Fall, cancer survivors can join others to restore their mind, body and spirit through a free 12-week program at the Summit Area YMCA.
Cancer takes a tremendous physical and emotional toll on those affected with it. Life after cancer can bring on new and unexpected challenges and can be very difficult. During this trying time, support from friends, family and support groups is essential!
LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA is a program at the Summit YMCA and Berkeley Heights YMCA designed to help adult cancer survivors reclaim their total health. Common goals include building muscle mass and strength, increasing flexibility and endurance, and improving confidence and self-esteem. The program is conducted outside of medical facilities to emphasize that LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA is about health, not disease.
The YMCA staff is trained in supportive cancer care, and work with participants in building muscle mass, strength, increasing flexibility, endurance, and improving confidence and self-esteem and more. The LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA program helps survivors become healthier and happier individuals.
This Fall, cancer survivors can sign up for this program at either our Berkeley Heights or Summit Branches.

“When I was cleared by my doctor, I couldn’t wait to start getting back to my old self with the LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA. There’s such a variety of types of exercise we are introduced to in order to get stronger—swimming, weights and circuit, nutrition classes. I used to be quite a swimmer, so being able to get back in the water and slowly get better at it again was really exciting.” -- Karen, LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA participant and YMCA member
