Join the Summit Area YMCA to Celebrate Healthy Kids Day April 30!

Healthy Kids day, a YMCA initiative that encourages kids and families to stay active and enforce healthy habits, will be celebrated on Saturday April 30th, at the Summit YMCA. As a non-profit, the Summit Area YMCA’s mission is to support families by building a strong community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Better individuals make for a better community, a better us.

According to the American Center of Disease Control, roughly 12.7 million American children and adolescents 2-19 years old are obese. With today’s fast paced, technologically driven society, grabbing a quick bite to eat at the local fast-food store is easy and filling. However, parents and children need to make mindful decisions about following healthy habits and staying active, as these habits follow children into adulthood and make an impact on their quality of living. Wellness traverses not just a child’s physical body, but can shape their mental perception and habits regarding activity and diet.

“We believe it is so important to encourage health and wellness among children. At the Y, we focus on nurturing our youth and inspiring healthy living,” commented Sue Fieseler, event coordinator and the Y’s Member Connector. “We are thrilled to host this event and to have the support of wonderful community partners to help us promote the health in mind, body and spirit.”

Various community organizations will be participating and providing activities and exhibits supporting healthy living. Events and activities include inflatable obstacle course, wheel of health, healthy snack tastings and demos, facepainting, arts and crafts, scavenger hunt, camp games, giveaways, prizes and much more.

Join the Summit Area YMCA in a day of creative, challenging, smart, healthy fun!

TIME: 11:30AM – 2:30PM
