Get Ready for the Summit Area Y’s Annual Mother’s Day 5K Run/Walk!

Register for the Mother's Day 5K Run/Walk fundraiser -- a celebratory event that raises funds for those affected by cancer through the LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA program.

“When I first joined the LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA program, my first mile on the treadmill took me 44 minutes,” said Laurie, school teacher in the Berkeley Heights school district and Berkeley Heights YMCA member. “After 5 weeks, I was able to run a 12 minute mile. The support from the program, the participants, and the LIVESTRONG® coaches helped me get back to feeling like myself again.”

LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA program is a 12-week small-group recovery program offered free of cost to adult cancer survivors at the Summit and Berkeley Heights YMCAs. Participants in this program work with specially trained Y staff to customize the program to their individual needs. Common goals include building muscle mass and strength, increasing flexibility and endurance, and improving confidence and self-esteem.

“As a result of being a part of LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA program, I was able to regain my strength and endurance, and I was able to run the Summit Area YMCA’s Annual Mother’s Day 5K.” -- Paul, Berkeley Heights YMCA Member and LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA program
