Since its founding in 1886, the Summit Area YMCA has strived to be a provider of programs and services that meet community needs in areas of youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. From providing children and guardians with wellness and nutrition based education at Back to School Nights to spearheading the C.A.T.C.H. Program (Coordinated Approach to Child Health) curriculum to address childhood obesity, the Summit Area YMCA has worked with the Summit public school system to ensure the positive and healthy development of children in the community.
Developed with working parents in mind, the Summit Area YMCA will offer a Specialty Sidekick camp program offered specifically towards the Lawton C. Johnson Middle School’s FLASH camp program. The FLASH Specialty Sidekick camp is an afternoon camp option for children who will attend the morning FLASH camp programs at the Lawton C. Johnson Middle School in Summit. Campers will be picked up from the middle school when FLASH dismisses and then bussed to the Watchung Reservation for an afternoon filled with chances to explore, learn and create. This option will provide busy parents peace of mind, knowing that their children will be well cared for by trained counselors in a quality camp setting.
This camp program will give your child an opportunity to experience traditional camp activities in a safe and stimulating environment. As a part of encouraging healthy exercise and teaching healthy habits in our youth, the Y’s Sidekick for FLASH will also offer swim two days a week in addition to structured outdoor time that’s filled with team building, group games, arts and crafts and sports. Campers will get to explore the world around them when they take their weekly nature hike through the beautiful trails in the Watchung Reservation.
Pre and Post Camp options are also available for parents who need early morning drop off or late day pick up options. Transportation to the middle school is included in Pre Camp and transportation back to the Summit Y is included with Post camp. Don’t let your children spend just half of the day discovering their creativity- join Sidekick for FLASH today and know that they will be going strong, all day long this summer with the Summit YMCA!
