Summit YMCA Welcomes Santa with Annual Tree Lighting & Holiday Party

It's the most wonderful time of the year and the Summit YMCA, a branch of the Summit Area YMCA, is proud to host a number of holiday themed events this season, including the 2017 Annual Tree Lighting event for the town of Summit this Saturday, December 2, 2017. Since its founding in 1886, the Summit Area YMCA has worked side-by-side with neighbors and local organiztions to ensure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive—and when it comes to the holidays, the Y has its heart set on keeping the holiday tradition alive in welcoming Saint Nicholas, better known as Santa Claus, to town on his red carriage, the Summit Fire Department Firetruck.

“We had learned that Summit Downtown would no longer host the event this year, and so we decided to continue the tradition for the children,” said Terri Clinton, Executive Director of the Summit YMCA. “We took part in the planning of it last year and they [Summit Downtown] taught and guided us through the planning processes of it. This year, we’ve also invited other local nonprofits to participate and provide crafts and other fun activities for kids to do. It’s going to be a great event!”

The evenings events include:

- Santa’s Arrival
- Lighting of the Town Tree
- Photos with Santa
- Holiday Music by World of Rock
- Hot Chocolate
- Reading of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas’
- Holiday Activities
- Bridges Men’s Hats & Gloves Collection Drive

Summit residents are advised that the Summit Police Department will close Maple Street between Broad Street beginning at 5:00PM, as well as the first entrance to the Summit YMCA parking lot.

The Summit Area YMCA will also be hosting other holiday themed events including Breakfast with Santa events at both its Summit YMCA and Berkeley Heights YMCA branches, where children and their families will be able to enjoy breakfast and take photos with Santa Claus.
