Summit, NJ— It is that time of year again when we all start thinking about longer, warmer days and most importantly, CAMP! Registration is now open for the Summit Area YMCA’s 40+ fun and unique full and half day Summer Camps, perfect for kids ages 3-17. Our camps will excite even the most hesitant camper. Join Camp Cannundus for a more traditional day camp experience, or try out more specific camps like Hands On! Minds On! Science Camp and explore the science behind chemical reactions, air pressure and more through hands on projects and engineering challenges. Not a scientist? Try Behind the Scenes, a 2 week camp that lets your child learn about what it takes to put on a production, from painting scenery to helping with costumes. Prefer the spotlight more? Try Drama Mania and develop your acting skills and pave your way to Broadway or Hollywood!
Your 5-7 year old camper can fulfil their dreams of becoming a princess or mermaid, 5-10 year old sport enthusiasts will love every day spent outdoors at Sports Camp; ultimate Frisbee, football, basketball, soccer, swimming and more! How about spending a few weeks in our special Leader in Training (LIT) camp? Your teenager will gain self-confidence, improve their leadership skills and learn how to work with children of all ages while still having all the fun of a camper! Whether you’re an artist, scientist, mathematician, actor, traveler, cook, or leader, the Y has a camp for you!
YMCA summer camp counselors and instructors model values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Every child is taught to value the importance of difference and diversity, caring and acceptance. Nancy’s speaks of her children’s experience at YMCA summer camp. Having recently moved from the west coast, her children were nervous about their new environment. “My kids loved the positive energy and enthusiasm of the camp counselors who helped them settle physically and emotionally into their new environment. My daughter loved the color wars, and my son learned sportsmanship and the value of kindness in Sports camp. Summer camp at the Summit Area YMCA became their home away from home. They will be back next year!”
The Y offers Financial Assistance to those in need. 14 year old Gerard shared, “I’m a shy person, but the Y has always been a comfortable place for me to be and the Y helped me become more confident when meeting new people. I was able to attend the Teen Trek Camp these past few summers because the Y provided me and my mom financial assistance. During the year I enjoy playing soccer and other sports, but what I really look forward to is summer camp because I get to hang out with my old friends, make new ones, and do fun activities every day.”
