SUMMIT AREA YMCA RECEIVES $4,000 CHARITABLE DONATION FROM THE OFFICE TAVERN GRILL

Since the Y first opened its doors in 1886, the Y has been committed to working side by side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. Lasting personal and social change comes about when we all work together to achieve it. On Tuesday, February 9, The Summit Area YMCA received a $4,000 donation from The Office Tavern Grill, a newly revamped restaurant in the heart of downtown Summit formerly known as The Office Beer Bar & Grill. The donation was raised during a series of pre-opening training events that offered guests a complimentary meal in exchange for a $5.00 donation benefitting the Summit Area YMCA.

The iconic New Jersey restaurant, known simply as “The Office,” features a new menu, a full bar with extensive cocktail and 40 draft beer options, as well as modern classic American comfort cuisine. The new restaurant provides a chic and upscale casual ambience for guests in downtown Summit. “For decades, the Summit community was always a great supporter of the former Office restaurant, and I’m happy to say that the new Office Tavern Grill concept has been warmly and enthusiastically embraced thus far,” said Steve Baliva, vice president of operations, 40NORTH Restaurant Group, owner and operator of The Office Tavern Grill. “As part of the grand re-opening, we wanted to raise money for a worthy community-centric organization while making sure that the money had a direct impact right here in town. As such, we partnered with the great people at the Summit Area YMCA. As true locals know, the Summit Area YMCA is truly ingrained in the DNA of this town. We appreciate the help that their team put forth in reintroducing us to the community and are proud that our donation will help benefit its various civic-minded and inclusive programs. We look forward to partnering with them for years to come.”

The donation will be supporting the Y’s various programs and services that develop youth, promote healthy living and encourage social responsibility. With help from our donors and partners, we are able to provide free swim lessons to all 2nd graders in the area, ensuring that children are taught the life skills necessary to be comfortable in and around water. 7th graders can receive free 1 year memberships that provide them with a safe and secure place to socialize as well as develop healthy living habits with free fitness equipment demonstrations and use of the wellness facilities. Teenagers looking for help and advice can find it in programs like Girl Focus, where girls can discuss real life problems, insecurities, and issues with role models and each other, while the Achievers program provides teens with college and career preparation opportunities like college tours, corporate mentoring, career workshops, and more. Our LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA program provides a free 12 week membership to cancer survivors as the Y helps them regain their total health in small group exercise and discussion sessions. Every aspect of the Y’s programs serve as fundamental building blocks for a better individual, and consequently, for a better community, and for a better us.

The Summit Area YMCA is a proud partner of 40North Restaurant Group and is excited to serving the community together.

The Y counts on the generosity of our members and partners to keep our doors open for anyone who needs a place to go, to feel healthy, confident, connected and safe. Thanks to The Office Tavern Grill as well as the many other Y community partners, programs and services at the Summit Area YMCA can be accessible to all regardless of their ability to pay.

The Summit Area YMCA is one of area’s leading 501c3 organizations. Our programs and services are open to all through our financial assistance programs made possible through the generosity of our members, donors, staff and partners.
