SAY Swim Team Tryouts

Join the say swim team!

Are you ready to become the next SAY Seal champion? Tryout for the SAY Swim Team and join us in celebrating a century of tradition, swimming excellence, and success for the 2023-2024 season at the local, state, and national levels. Our highly selective, year-round competitive program offers training and practice groups for swimmers ages 6 to 18. At the Summit Area YMCA, we're passionate about fostering a lifelong love of swimming, and we're proud to see many of our swimmers go on to compete beyond the YMCA competitive swimming league.

TRYOUTS

Team tryouts are based on swimming ability, techniques, stamina, listening skills, and interaction with others and are run as a typical practice for each specific age group. Each tryout is one-hour long (45-minutes for swimmers 8 years and under).

Important: Age for short course YMCA meets are determined by the child’s age as of December 1, 2023. Swimmers who “age up” on or before December 1 must try out for the next age group. Each timeslot is limited to 12 swimmers who all fall within the same age group.

Registration is first come, first serve, and will close the day before the tryout unless room is still available. Pre-registration is required. Financial assistance is available for interested participants to whom the cost of swim team may be a challenge.

Note: Swimmers who do not make the team will be welcomed into our swim lessons and clinics program, designed to develop swimming skills in a non-competitive environment.

SUMMIT AREA YMCA

BERKELEY HEIGHTS YMCA | SUMMIT YMCA | THE LEARNING CIRCLE YMCA

In 1886, we were founded as the Young Men's Christian Association, but today, we are The Y. An association that values, and is made stronger by, its diverse people. We stand for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility — For a better us. We are committed to creating equal opportunity for all regardless of gender, age, disability, income, ethnicity, sexual orientation or religious affiliation. We strive to create a welcoming and inclusive culture in which our four core values — responsibility, honesty, caring and respect — are integral to everyday operations.

Each year, as one of the area’s leading 501(c)(3) charitable organizations, the Summit Area YMCA serves more than 15,000 individuals with our free and fee-based programs and services in an area spanning the New Jersey communities of Berkeley Heights, Gillette, Millburn, New Providence, Short Hills, Springfield, Stirling and Summit. Our history is rooted in working side-by-side with our neighbors to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. Through the generosity of our members, donors, and partners, we are able to offer financial assistance for our programs and services to those in need.
