The Y program prides itself on being much more than just day care. When you entrust your child to the Y, we strive to fulfill our promise to make each day an opportunity for your child to learn, grow, and thrive. Caring for your child and providing them with a safe environment that stimulates creativity, socialization and youth development remains our top priority.
The Toddler Program at the Berkeley Heights YMCA Childcare Center is designed as an introduction to day care and socialization classes for children 2.5 to 3 years old. Toddlers will enjoy a well-rounded curriculum as well as opportunities to socialize. Our toddler program allows children to learn through exploration and play. In addition, we emphasize structured freedom where toddlers are given the independence to develop at their own pace in a encouraging environment. Toddlers will grow and learn with our experienced and nurturing teachers 2, 3, 4 or 5 days a week, from 7:00 AM-6:00 PM for full day students and either morning 9:00 AM-12:00 PM or afternoons 2:00-5:00 PM for half day students. Full day summer camp options are also available in our Busy Bees Program.
Our curriculum places a high priority on creating an environment in the classroom that encourages children to experiment, explore, and pursue their own interests. Activities will include science and art, guided instruction during morning circle, story time, and structured playground or gym time every day. At the Berkeley Heights YMCA students have access to their own fenced in outdoor playground and large grass area, as well as a full gymnasium and two multi-purpose spaces.
Our students are provided a healthy morning and afternoon snack that includes fresh fruit or vegetables. Lunch can be purchased through our vendor, Catering Solutions, who offer a variety of custom, healthy, freshly prepared boxed lunches, delivered to our center daily.
An active Summit Area YMCA Membership is required to register for any childcare or summer camp programs. If you do not have a family membership, a Youth Membership (Ages 12 & Under) may be purchased for each child billed annually at $110 per year/per child. If you had a membership previously and are having trouble reactivating it, please complete the Membership Change Request form.

Creating an uplifting and supportive community has been a Y tradition from the beginning, and we don’t think anyone should be turned away because of financial constraints. As a nonprofit, the Summit Area YMCA is committed to enhancing the lives of individuals and families in our community. We do so by offering financial assistance to those with demonstrated need so that they may enjoy all the Y has to offer, regardless of their ability to pay. This helps us ensure that everyone, regardless of age, income, or background has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. Families with low or moderate household income or those who are experiencing financial hardship are encouraged to apply. Applicants must live or work in the Summit Area YMCA service area which includes Berkeley Heights, Gillette, Millburn, New Providence, Short Hills, Springfield, Stirling and Summit.
