Active Older Adult Aquatic Classes

Many classes are suited to older adults within our Aquatic fitness class schedule.

All classes are free to members, and are offered to non-members for a fee (8 week class session). All must register for classes either online or in person at the Summit YMCA.

Active Older Adult Book Club

  • Book Club

    When:   Mondays, once a month
    Where:  Summit YMCA, 3rd floor
    Time:   
    12:15pm-1:15pm
    Cost:     Free and open to all area seniors

    Pack your lunch and join your YMCA friends to discuss the book of the month. Fun discussions and friendly people. Plase bring your suggestions for future books! We will supply the dessert!

  • DUPLICATE BRIDGE

    When:   Wednesdays
    Where:  Summit YMCA, 3rd Floor
    Time:    12:30pm-3:00pm
    Cost:     Free for all members
                 $7 per week for nonmembers

    Come enjoy a competitive game of duplicate bridge each week with your YMCA friends.  Experienced instructor will provide a quick lesson and be available to discuss hands.

Active Older Adult Knitting

Join us as we relax together while working on individual knitting projects among new friends. Finish items you’ve got in your knitting basket such as pretty scarves, mittens or baby blankets. Make beautiful items for family, friends or charity. Get a project back on track with some tips from the instructor or attendees. Try a more complex knitting stitch! Maybe knit socks?

Instructor will offer tips to keep your project moving ahead and help you as you start new projects. We’ll discuss what’s in the knitting news, new yarns and tools, how to pick the right size pattern. Bring your projects in process, and get ideas for new items. Yarn and tools information sheet will be provided.

Mah Jongg

  • MAH JONGG
    When:   Fridays
    Where:  Summit YMCA, 3rd Floor
    Time:    12:30 PM - 3:00 PM
    Cost:     Free to members
                 $10 to non-members for 8 week session.

    Join your Summit YMCA friends each Friday for an afternoon of MAH JONGG. Connect with others and engage your mind with this fun, intelligent game that requires your concentration. Please bring your 2014 Mah Jongg card.

PARKINSON'S PROGRAMS

  • BOXING FOR PARKINSON'S

    Non-contact boxing builds balance, coordination, flexibility, ROM. Minimum 3, Maximum 5 in class. Medical clearance required. Please contact Alice Stein at 9808 273 3330 x1152 or email with questions.

    Classes are 1 hour long.

  • PEDALING FOR PARKINSON'S

    This class is for people diagnosed with any movement disorder but concentrates on Parkinson's symptoms. Please contact Alice Stein at 908 273 3330 x1152 or email with questions.

Active Older Adult Swim

  • Open Lap Swim
    Open swim for older adults, 65+, daily, during any scheduled adult lap swim. $10.00 for 5 visits. See the Membership Desk to sign up.

Active Older Adult Tennis

  • TOUCH TENNIS

    When:   September 2 - October 26
    Time:    Thursdays, 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm
    Where:  Hubbard Gym, 2nd floor
    Cost:     FREE for Members; $10/8 week session for Non-members

    Indoor tennis using children's tennis equipment you will increase strength, stability, flexibility and hand eye coordination! This program has proved very popular with YMCA Adults!

Active Older Adult Volunteer Opportunities

  • READING TO CHILDREN
    Would you like to volunteer reading to the Preschool or Kindergarten children? If so, we would love for you to share your reading skills. Bring a favorite book or we will supply one for you. You will bring joy to your heart and a smile to the kid's faces.

    Available times: Monday- Friday between 9:00-1:00.
