Active Older Adult Aquatic Classes

Many classes are suited to older adults within our Aquatic fitness class schedule.

All classes are free to members, and are offered to non-members for a fee (8 week class session). All must register for classes either online or in person at the Summit YMCA.

Active Older Adult Book Club

  • Book Club

    FREE and open to all area seniors.

    First Tuesday of the month, for one hour
    The senior book club will meet in the Summit Room on the 3rd floor of the Summit Area YMCA. Helen's Bookshop in Summit will offer a 20% discount to book club members.Please RSVP to Lisa Meyers Community Program Coordinator 908-273-3330 Ext 186 or Email Lisa.

    Join licensed physical therapist Matthew Riordan of Professional Physical Therapy and Training, LLC for an informative seminar about maintaining mobility as you age. Matt's lectures are very informative and well attended by our community. Please register early.

    Join us as we relax together while working on individual knitting projects. Learn to knit, finish items in your knitting basket, create beautiful items for family and friends or get a project back on track. Experienced instructor!

    Join us for a lovely spring afternoon. Enjoy High Tea at Liberty Hall Museum on the glass-enclosed porch overlooking the formal English parterre gardens. The popular tea service includes a sumptuous selection of scones, assorted pastries, traditional finger sandwiches, and fresh fruit, after tea we will enjoy a private guided tour of the Kean Mansion and gardens and learn about the history of the Kean family. A wonderful Spring Day!! 

    Transportation will be provided from the Summit YMCA.  Register early seating is limited.

Active Older Adult Knitting

Join us as we relax together while working on individual knitting projects among new friends. Finish items you’ve got in your knitting basket such as pretty scarves, mittens or baby blankets. Make beautiful items for family, friends or charity. Get a project back on track with some tips from the instructor or attendees. Try a more complex knitting stitch! Maybe knit socks?

Instructor will offer tips to keep your project moving ahead and help you as you start new projects. We’ll discuss what’s in the knitting news, new yarns and tools, how to pick the right size pattern. Bring your projects in process, and get ideas for new items. Yarn and tools information sheet will be provided.

Mah Jongg

Join your Summit YMCA friends each Friday for an afternoon of MAH JONGG. Connect with others and engage your mind with this fun, intelligent game that requires your concentration.

Active Older Adult Swim

    Open swim for older adults, 65+, daily, during any scheduled adult lap swim. $10.00 for 5 visits. See the Membership Desk to sign up.

Active Older Adult Tennis

    Join Dick Walther for this low impact, fun filled class. Using children's tennis equipment you will increase strength, stability, flexibility and hand eye coordination! This program has proved very popular with YMCA Adults! Limited to 15 participants

    When: Spring 2 Session runs Apri 21 - June 15

Active Older Adult Volunteer Opportunities

All branches of the YMCA will be closed Thursday, November 28.
    Would you like to volunteer reading to the Preschool or Kindergarten children? If so, we would love for you to share your reading skills. Bring a favorite book or we will supply one for you. You will bring joy to your heart and a smile to the kid's faces.

    Available times: Monday- Friday between 9:00-1:00.
