Parent Child Enrichment (Ages 1 To 5 Years)

  • BUSY TIME WITH PARENT (AGES 1 TO 3 YEARS)

    Enjoy singing songs, playing games, circle time activities and stories in this fun parent and child class.

  • WHAT A MESS! (AGES 1 TO 3)

    Toddlers love to explore and get messy. Let the Y do the clean up. Your child will have fun finger painting, playing with playdough and so much more!

  • TODDLER OPEN GYM (AGES 1 TO 6 YEARS)

    Does your child need some space to be active? Bring them to the Summit gymnasium to burn off some excess energy. Individuals and groups are welcome to stay and build friendships and play in air conditioned fun as you connect with other moms and their children where they will enjoy a safe,matted area where they can crawl, jump and run! We have hoola hoops, balls and other toys for them to enjoy which will vary each week. (FREE to members who sign up for any one youth enrichment summer class at either Summit or Berkeley Heights during the Summer 1 or Summer 2 sessions). Classes will not be held on 7/10 or 8/7.

AM Preschool / Kindergarten Enrichment (Ages 3 To 6 Years)

  • STORYBOOK CHEF (AGES 2 TO 5 YEARS)

    Play, listen, learn and create! As our Storybook Chef introduces your child to a favorite children’s book with a hand-on, age-appropriate, fun food activity. Children are encouraged to wear their aprons to class. Class activity may be messy.

Dance Academy (Ages 3 To 12 Years)

  • ZUMBATOMIC (AGES 7 TO 12 YEARS)

    Designed exclusively for kids, Zumbatonic classes are rockin’, high-energy ¾tness parties packed with specially choreographed, kid-friendly routines and all music kids love. Zumbatonic rounds out family fitness goals by giving parents a great reason to head to the Y - for themselves, for their kids, for a totally fun family experience.

  • BALLET & CREATIVE MOVEMENT (AGES 4 TO 6 YEARS)

    This Pre-Ballet, Creative Movement class teaches children basic warm-up and stretch exercises to instill the importance of preparing the body for dance. Warm-up routines are followed by very simple, early ballet, taught to music in a playful environment. Children learn to follow instructions and cooperate with others in a group. A small vocabulary of ballet terms is used and steadily instilled into their memory.

  • JAZZ/TAP (AGES 4 TO 6 YEARS)

    Students will learn jazz and tap routines while working on correct body alignment, coordination, strength and ¿exibility. Jazz and tap vocabulary is expanded through across the floor exercises and simple combinations.

School Age Enrichment (Ages 2 To 14 Years)

  • DRAGONS, FAIRIES, AND PRINCESSES (AGES 4 TO 6 YEARS)

    Children will let their imaginations soar in this magical fairy tale-themed arts and crafts class! Participants make dragon and fairy wings, prince and princess crowns, wands, jewels, fairy tale puppets, costumes and more.

  • FAIRY TALE FITNESS (AGES 4 TO 6 YEARS)

    Fairy Tale Fitness is a new fun ¾tness program designed just for kids! We focus on building core strength, balance, coordination, confidence, and fun. Children will experience ¿ying with carpets, walking over “rivers” and finding out whether slow and steady really wins the race.

  • SLIMY SCIENCE (AGES 4 TO 6 YEARS)

    Children will learn about science by touching, feeling, and even tasting their science experiments. This engaging, hands-on  learning science class will captivate your preschoolers imagination and joy for learning while they perform simple science experiments and discover how science can help us to better understand the world around us.

Pre-Teen And Teen Fitness And Events

  • GIRLS ON THE RUN NJ (GRADES 3 TO 5)

    For girls in Grades 3 to 5. We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident, using a fun, experience-based curriculum, which creatively integrates running. The program runs 10 weeks. Participants meet two times a week for one 1 hour and 15 minutes.

    Program meets:
    Mon and Thursday, 4:00 pm to 5:0 pm at Memorial Track, Summit
    Tuesday, 4:00-5:15 pm, and Saturday, 9:30-10:45 am, Columbia Park, Berkeley Heights.

7th Grade Initiative / Membership

We want to support and encourage kids to make good decisions and form healthy habits that lead to a healthy lifestyle. The 7th Grade Initiative program provides opportunities for fitness and sports, as well as an opportunity to socialize with peers in a safe, supervised and conveniently located environment. This special free membership available only to 7th graders demonstrates our commitment and philosophy for a well-rounded approach to the healthy development of the whole person.

It’s Easy to Get Started
Please bring the following to the Y to 
activate your membership.
1. Your school ID, roster or report card
2. A parent or guardian
3. Sign a Code of Conduct
4. Complete a few quick forms and begin your membership right away!
 

 

We demonstrate to each Seventh Grader how to use gym equipment. Demonstrations are approximately one hour long and must be scheduled in advance. Demos focus on safety and proper technique. Once all demos are completed, 7th graders will have a full access membership to the Y. There is a limit of three students per demonstration time slot at the Berkeley Heights YMCA. Only one demo per day per 7th grader.

Special Events
Each month 7th graders will have a special event just for them.
