Parent Child Enrichment (ages 1 to 2 years)

  • ALMOST ARTIST (AGES 1 TO 2 YEARS, WITH AN ADULT)

    Toddlers learn best by “doing”.  Practice with a variety of art mediums and large pieces in different shapes, textures, and colors will not only strengthen artistic skills but will provide a wide range of opportunity for expressing creativity.  Please make sure your child wears old clothes!

    Classes are 45 minutes long.

  • BUSY TIME (AGES 1 TO 2 YEARS, WITH AN ADULT)

    Enjoy singing songs, playing games, circle time activities and stories in this fun parent and child class.

    Classes are 45 minutes long.

AM Preschool / Kindergarten Enrichment (ages 3 to 6 years)

  • FRIDAY FUN FACTORY (AGES 3 TO 6 YEARS)
    Kids will expend their energy and learn basic skills while playing soccer, kickball, and other kid friendly games. Each week kids will have a different activity. Kids will cook up some delicious treats, and explore their artistic side.

    Classes are 2 hours long.
  • YOUNG ARTISTS (AGES 3 TO 6 YEARS)
    Your child will enjoy making some great projects in this art class. Your child will experience painting, jewelry making, ceramics and more. Bring a smock.  Supplies included in fee.

    Classes are 45 minutes long.

  • YOUNG CHEFS (AGES 3 TO 6 YEARS)

    Inspired by our friends at the Food Network, participants will have fun making decorative cup cakes, muffins of all types, fruit bouquets, and the tastiest treats imaginable. This is a hands-on class that’s an absolute blast. Children with food allergies must notify the instructor. An emphasis will be fun after dinner desserts. Supplies are included in fee.

    Classes are 45 minutes long.

  • WEDNESDAY STORY TIME (AGES 3 TO 6 YEARS)
    Help us foster imagination and creativity in your child. Each week we will read a story and work on a craft that is centered around the characters, themes or settings.

Dance Academy (ages 2 to 9 years)

 

  • BALLET AND CREATIVE MOVEMENT (AGES 3 TO 6 YEARS)

    Our non-competitive Ballet & Tap program is the perfect way to introduce your child to the world of dance and creative expression. This class combines Ballet & Tap dancing while enhancing balance, posture, and grace. Using a musical back drop your child will learn basic steps and movements while building flexibility, strength, and coordination. Ballet & Tap Shoes not required but recommended.

    Classes are 45 minutes long.

  • BALLET AND TAP DANCING (AGES 3 TO 6 YEARS)

    Dance Party is a fun and creative and Fitness dance class for younger children. Dance Party promotes healthy exercise through fun and stimulating music that children can relate to.

School Age Enrichment (ages 4 to 14 years)

  • COUNTED CROSS-STITCHING CLUB (AGES 9 TO 14 YEARS)
    Colonial American girls were taught to sew a sampler, embroidery patterns. The design of a schoolgirl's sampler usually included the alphabet, numberals and a picture or a verse. In this class, we will create a colonial sampler. Students will learn the basic cross-stitch.

    Classes are 1 hour long.
  • PAINTING 101 (AGES 5 TO 10 YEARS)
    This class will focus on the great works of Van Gogh. Children will cover the key aspects of each painting before attempting to recreate one of Van Gogh's masterpieces. Technique and painting strategies will be woven throughout the class to provide a well-rounded painting experience.

    Classes are 1 hour long.
  • SEWING 101 (AGES 7 TO 14 YEARS)
    Come and learn the basics of knitting, sewing, or crocheting. Each session you  will learn a different skill and make fun items like pillows and stuffed animals. All supplies included.

    Classes are 1 hour long.
  • YOUNG CHEFS (AGES 4 TO 12)

  • MAKING MOSAICS (AGES 5 TO 10 YEARS)
    Create something truly unique as you learn the ancient art of mosaics. In this terrific hands on class students will learn to hand paint tiles and may also choose to include the use of shells and ocean stones in their wonderful finished piece. Make a treasure to last a lifetime reflecting your creativity from start to finish.

    Classes are 1 hour long.

Science and Technology (ages 5 - 12 years)

 

  • CHESS (AGES 6 TO 12 YEARS)
    This class is for all levels of chess players. Beginners will learn basic strategies and moves, and advanced players will be challenged by their peers and instructors. This is a great class for the chess lover in all of us.

    Classes are 1 hour long.
  • SILLY SCIENCE (AGES 5 TO 10 YEARS)
    Come and explore the world of science. Do you like making slime, creating invisible ink, or constructing marshmallow towers? Your child will enjoy creating different projects while learning. Safe and common household products will be used to bring science to life right before your child's eyes. 

    Classes are 1 hour long.

Pre-Teen and Teen Fitness / Events

  • GIRLS ON THE RUN NJ (GRADES 3 TO 5)

    For girls in Grades 3 to 5. We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident, using a fun, experience-based curriculum, which creatively integrates running. The program runs 10 weeks. Participants meet two times a week for one 1 hour and 15 minutes.

    Mon and Thursday, 4:00 pm to 5:0 pm at Memorial Track, Summit
    Tuesday, 4:00-5:15 pm, and Saturday, 9:30-10:45 am, Columbia Park, Berkeley Heights.

7th Grade Initiative/Membership

We want to support and encourage kids to make good decisions and form healthy habits that lead to a healthy lifestyle. The 7th Grade Initiative program provides opportunities for fitness and sports, as well as an opportunity to socialize with peers in a safe, supervised and conveniently located environment. This special free membership available only to 7th graders demonstrates our commitment and philosophy for a well-rounded approach to the healthy development of the whole person.

It’s Easy to Get Started Please bring the following to the Y to 
activate your membership.
1. Your school ID, roster or report card
2. A parent or guardian
3. Sign a Code of Conduct
4. Complete a few quick forms and begin your membership right away!

DOWNLOAD an Application

We demonstrate to each Seventh Grader how to use gym equipment. Demonstrations are approximately one hour long and must be scheduled in advance. Demos focus on safety and proper technique. Once all demos are completed, 7th graders will have a full access membership to the  Y. There is a limit of three students per demonstration time slot. Only one demo per day per 7th grader.
