ac-jeannemarie“Over the past year, the Y Achievers program has helped me prepare for college with SAT prep, time management skills and reviewing potential colleges. It broadened my thoughts on career paths and provided exposure to real-life work experiences through the Novartis Mentoring Program. The Y staff took the time to help us figure out our individual passions. The Achievers program guides you along the way to a bright future and I am going to college with confidence because I am prepared.”

ac-gary“Gary had such a good time at Camp, he did not want to come home and said if he could, he would go for a month. He loved the variety of activities he got to try -- especially tubing down the Delaware, swimming, camping, and archery. He made lots of friends. He really enjoyed the food. He loved the Staff. He was so proud to receive the Best Athlete Award. “

— Dorothy, Gary’s grandmother

ac-kendall“The Y’s 7th Grade Membership program has inspired me to work out 2 to 3 times a week, and that’s much better than sitting at home on the couch watching TV and eating chips. Learning how to exercise different parts of my body has made me stronger and improved my swimming times -- I’ve been on the Y’s swim team since I was 8 years old. I especially like the monthly parties, where I hang out, play dodgeball, eat pizza, and meet new people. I love the Y.”

“Marvin was 3 when I lost my job. His being accepted to the Y’s childcare program with almost 100% financial assistance was a true blessing. While I later was working three jobs to provide for my family, it was reassuring to know that Marvin was safe, happy, and loved at the Y – being taught academic and socialization skills. Now he is 14 and thriving in high school. The Y enabled our family to be more. “

“This will be Chris’ third year in the Y Achievers Program.  This year and next year are important years because he will either need to get a job or go to college.  The thought of college is overwhelming for me as I am a single mother with a high school degree.  But, with the help of the High School and Achievers, Chris and I feel we are being guided through SAT/ACT prep, learning time management skills and that setting and following through on goals.  Chris is excited about the College Tour that the Y provides to universities  like to Georgia Tech, Clark Atlanta University among others.  Achievers pushes my son to look forward to the future and it gives me more peace of mind that something will work out.”

“Near the water, every parent wants to feel assured that their child is safe and knows how to swim.  It is of special concern for me since my 12 year old is a special needs child.  We’ve tried lessons at two other pools, but he is most calm when he is at the Y and so we come here for his private weekly lesson.  Quinn loves his swim instructor who praises his attitude and challenges him to take responsibility and commit to making more progress every time he comes.  He intuitively feels his instructor cares.  I saw something recently that said “you can save a life by teaching a kid to swim”.  That’s why I’m here.”
