2013 Annual Fund
Since our founding in 1886, the Summit Area YMCA has continued our urgent focus on saving lives and changing lives through our mission of -- youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. And we make a very special promise – that we are open and accessible to all regardless of race, religion, age, gender or financial circumstance.
Today, more than ever, financially struggling families need a helping hand to get back on their feet. They also need a place to belong and the support of those who care. Did you know that ….
- many local families subsist on annual incomes of $25,000 or less?
- the unemployment rate in NJ in November of 2012 was 9.6%, higher than the national average.
- approximately 15.1 million children are unsupervised after school?
- nearly 17 percent of children and adolescents ages 2-19 or 17% are obese?
- more than one in five people who die from drowning are children under age 14?
- approximately 13.8 million people in the United States are cancer survivors?
The Summit Area YMCA is striving to address these and many other health and social service challenges in our community while continuing to provide a safe place where inclusiveness is fostered, diversity is embraced, and where children and families can build relationships and find the support they need. The support of donors to our Annual Campaign ensures that our Y is able to be there to meet these needs.
In 2012, our YMCA had an impact on more than 657 deserving individuals and families throughout our service area, 40% of whom were children. We provided over $1.2 Million in financial assistance and subsidy for Y programs and services.
