"I grew up attending the Westfield YMCA and, at a young age, I learned how the Y brought the community together. After Graduate School, I accepted a job at the Y and quickly determined that it would be my career path. I love the values that we embrace, the uniqueness of everyday in the Y, and the impact we make on the community. Seeing a toddler smiling and learning in child care, a youngster making his first basket in the gymnasium, a teen volunteering to help our local food pantry, or a swimmer representing the Y at the highest level of competition is magical to me. These experiences are enhanced when I see families, adults, seniors and so many others building community inside and outside our Y every day. The Y is not only where I have the privilege to make an impact, it is also where I take care of my own mental and physical health by exercising regularly. I truly look to share the joy I have experienced, and continue to experience, with others!"

Emily’s Y Story: “I chose to work at the Y because I wanted to give back to the community by working at a non profit organization. As a single mom with three adolescent children, I knew my kids would benefit from my association with an organization dedicated to developing youth. All three of my kids have worked at the Y — how wonderful knowing that their first working experiences would be at an employer concerned about their development. The Y has helped me raise philanthropic young adults who continue to give back to the community. I feel great knowing that my work is helping others.”

Anjali's Y Story: "After the birth of my second child, I stopped working full time and soon thereafter moved to Summit from New York City. It was at the Y that I first found community in Summit. In addition to meeting new people and making friends, the Y offered a welcoming environment to help me stay healthy and in shape. Since then, my children have been enrolled in numerous swim and sports clinics, played Youth Soccer and Basketball, enjoyed summer day camp, and celebrated birthday parties at the Y. I love that the Y is literally and figuratively the center of our community and that its mission for youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility so closely aligns with many of the things I consider important."

: “My local Y was a support to me when I needed a comfortable place to belong. In addition, I worked out in the fitness area and achieved both mental and physical rehab!”

: “Having grown up, attended schools and raised my two sons in the immediate area, I am well entrenched in this great community and have a strong sense of community pride. I also have a strong sense of community gratitude that goes hand in hand with that community pride. I first came into contact with the Y as a young single mom. I took full advantage of the before and after school programs, and these were what made it possible for me to return to work. I am not sure I would have succeeded without the Y’s support. It meant so much to know that my sons were always in good hands. Plus they so enjoyed all the activities! What I experienced and learned about the Y as a single mom gave me many important reasons to want to join and contribute to the Y. My experience as a fundraiser for non-profits for more than 20 years has given me many more. In that work I became acutely aware of the needs of youth, single-parents and the elderly. Of course, these are the members of our community that the Y serves so well."
