  • Assistant Camp Director - Summit

    Available immediately

    Provide leadership for an exciting summer to campers at the Y!   Manage camp program, staff and volunteers in all day camps and ensure that programs operate in a quality manner consistent with Y guidelines and licensing requirements. Hire, train and supervise staff, organize staff schedules and evaluate staff performance.   Develop age appropriate curriculum that support children's physical, social, intellectual and emotional growth.  Maintain positive relationships with parents and resolve all parent issues and concerns in a timely manner.   
    This position plans camp events and participates in branch activities as a member of the Youth Development leadership team.  The position is available immediate to plan for camp dates from June 22 through Sept 4.   Orientation and training will be provided during the few weeks prior to camp starting.   

    Qualifications:

    Bachelor's degree or equivalent
    Minimum 3 years' camp experience
    Minimum 2 years' supervisory experience
    Strong interpersonal skills and ability to resolve parent issues

  • Basketball Referee

    Summit YMCA is seeking part time Basketball Referee for Travel Basketball season.  Seasonal Dec- March. Approximately 5 hours a week, Thursday and Saturday evenings. 

    Responsibilities:

    -Officiates basketball games as assigned and enforces the rules of play
    -Ability to see play with sufficient clarity and make accurate decisions
    -Communicates with coaches, players, sponsors, and fans to maintain order
    -Sits, stands, bends, stoops, reaches, walks, and jogs intermittently

    Requirements:
    Must present certification from a nationally recognized organization upon hiring.
    Track record of officiating in a fair and honest matter 
    Past experience as a basketball referee for adult basketball leagues
    Must be in excellent physical condition- able to run up and down a regulation sized basketball court for the entire quarter/half
    A high level of superior independent judgment when making calls
    Must be at least 21 years old

    Compensation: $40 per game.

    A free family YMCA membership is provided.   The selected candidate must complete all required paperwork to become an employee of the YMCA. Candidates will require references, a background check, and a drug test.

  • Camp Specialist - Cheerleading

    Camp Specialist (Cheerleading) – Looking for excited, energetic, and talented performers who enjoy working with children! The Camp Specialist (Cheerleading) will work hands-on with the campers in developing cheers, songs, routines and other fun activities.  Must be a "jack of all trades," and be comfortable instructing and leading children in different aspects of cheerleading. The successful candidate must have experience working with children.
    A degree, or currently pursuing a degree in early childhood education, theatre, performing or visual arts, is preferred. Hourly rate based on education and experience.   • Child Care and Camp Director

    Full Time position

    The Summit YMCA seeks a Child Care and Camp Director who manages the child care and camp programs, staff and volunteers in all the day and after-school child care branch programs  and camps.  The Child Care Director ensures that the child care programs operate in a quality manner consistent with Y guidelines and all state, local, and camp licensing requirements.

    Essential Functions:

    1. Coordinates the development and management of the Branch’s child care programs to meet community needs and achieve the Association’s operating objectives established in the Strategic Plan.
    2. Plans and manages the Y’s camp programs and summer options to ensure growth, quality and exceeding of child and parent expectations.   Adherence to all ACA licensing requirements.
    3. Works with Sr. Director Child Care and Camp in the development of program strategies and program quality standards.
    4. Demonstrates effective time management, organizational and conflict resolution skills. 
    5. Organizes staff schedules and manages staff performance on an ongoing basis. Prepares and conducts performance appraisals a minimum of twice annually and handles disciplinary actions.
    6. Hires, trains, and supervises staff.  Follows all Association employment policies and assures that all staff have appropriate training to meet guidelines established by the Summit Area YMCA and the State of New Jersey.
    7. Collects, reviews and approves time sheets for all branch staff
    8. Develops annual budget and monitors budget on a monthly basis to meet fiscal objectives.  
    9. Develops age-appropriate curriculum that support children’s physical, social, intellectual and emotional growth.
    10. Promotes and implements our PBL (Project-based learning) Model through appropriate program enhancements, activities and culminating events
    11. Conducts bi-weekly classrooms evaluations and develops improvement plans. Assures successful daily implementation of the plan at each programs.
    12. Monitors enrollment and attendance of all programs. Provides weekly reports and monthly updates to Sr. Director
    13. Informs Sr. Director of all program related issues such as medical, discipline, and parental concerns.
    14. Maintains positive relationships with parents. Effectively respond to all parent inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.

    Qualifications:

    1. Bachelor's Degree, and Teaching Certification.
    2. At least 3 years experience managing a licensed child care operation.
    3. Strong skills in human relations, budgeting/fiscal management, fund raising, membership/program/community development, volunteer/staff development, committee and board relations and staff supervision
    4. Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred, or expected within first year of employment
    5. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to respond to parent needs and concerns
    6. Budgeting experience
    7. First Aid and CPR certification

  • Gym Supervisor (part time)

    The Gym Supervisor is responsible for managing all aspects of the Hubbard Gymnasium, inclusive of sports equipment, sports scheduling, supervising activities, character development (gym etiquette and sportsmanship), and safety and security of the YMCA facility and members.

    Primary duties of this position include:

    Supervise set-up and break down of equipment. (raise/lower dividing curtain, set-up/take down volleyball net, raise/lower basketball goals, etc…)
    Properly store, maintain, and secure sports equipment (before and after) gym time.
    Ensures set up, clean up and put away of facility and equipment before and after programs.
    Supervises games and activities to ensure they are played according to the gym rules as well as the YMCA standards and values.
    Keep Sports closet and equipment secure, clean, and in order.
    Attends any scheduled staff meetings or training.
    Manages any unsportsmanlike conduct by members.
    Keeps daily summaries and facility usage, using appropriate forms. Communicates with Sports Director on a weekly basis.
    Ensures that gymnasium is in order before leaving (equipment secured, baskets raised to official heights, etc…) and gym schedules and gym signs are updated and posted.
    Assists sports instructors whenever necessary to maintain credibility and consistency of sports programs.
    Assists with special events whenever necessary.
    Notifies the Sports Director of schedule problems with sufficient notice. Ensures shift coverage when schedules change.
    Keeps Sports Director informed of all first aid issues, discipline or other significant problems.
    Records and reports all incidents / accidents on the official incident report form.

    Qualifications
    1. A high school diploma or its equivalency. :
    2. Experience and familiarity with gymnasium and equipment
    3. Experience working with children and/or adults is preferred.

    Incumbent will work up to 27.5 hours per week at hourly rate of $9.75 and

  • Kid Zone Staff

    The Kid Zone Staff member provides a quality drop-in babysitting program for members and participants 6 weeks to 10 years old.

    Essential Functions:

    1. Set-up room and provide a safe and clean environment for children in the babysitting area.
    2. Maintain toys and supplies and remove any supplies that are unsafe for children. 
    3. Report any equipment concerns to the appropriate director.
    4. Greet all parents and children who enter the room.
    5. Ensure child is signed in and out of program.  Punch card or receive money for children not on a family membership.
    6. Supervise and be attentive to the needs of all children in the room.
    7. Plan and participate in activities with children at an appropriate level.
    8. Follow all policies and procedures set by the Y, including those regarding Child Abuse Prevention and Blood Borne Pathogens.
    9. Respond to member concerns/complaints in a professional manner.
    10. Handle emergencies in a calm, appropriate manner.  Complete “Incident Reports” as required.
    11. Adhere to all standards outlined in the “Employee Handbook.”
    12. Attend staff meetings and other trainings as required.
    13. Perform any other appropriate duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with children and adults.
    • Experience working with children.
    • CPR and First Aid certifications strongly recommended.

    Essential Functions:

    • Maintains constant surveillance of the water, deck and pool areas at all times.  Actively scans the pool to achieve a 10 x 10 reaction time.
    • Knows, understands and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
    • Maintains a professional attitude and appearance.
    • Be on time and in proper uniform/equipment for each shift.
    • Maintains effective relationships with the members, participants, and other staff.
    • Give 100% attention to the patrons and operation of the pool area.  Be alert, vigilant and conscientious.
    • Maintain current certifications (Lifeguard, CPR-PR, First-Aid)
    • Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with Y policies and procedures.   Completes related reports as required.  
    • Knows all Aquatic Department policies and procedures and adheres to them.
    • Helps in maintaining pool area, including testing (chlorine and pH readings), cleaning, equipment and chemicals and completes all appropriate forms (accident report, fecal/vomitus report) thoroughly and legibly and in a timely manner.
    • Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
    • Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.

    Qualifications:

    • Must have a current certificate in YMCA, BSA, American Red Cross Lifeguard, Professional Rescuer CPR/AED and First Aid.  Must attend and pass certification classes offered for Emergency Oxygen Administration, Asthma Inhaler and Epi-Pen Administration within 6 months of hire.  Must be a minimum of 15 years old.  FREE Y MEMBERSHIP!

  • Rock Wall Climbers Needed

    Experience required

    The Summit YMCA is seek an experienced rock wall climber to supervise and instruct students of all ages on our 500 square foot rock wall on Saturdays. Additional hours available on an as needed basis

     Responsibilities

    • Monitor rock wall area to ensure safety of climbers and rock wall area while providing excellent customer service and climbing instructions to all levels of climbers
    • Assist and belay climbers
    • Supervise all participants on the wall to ensure safety procedures are adhered, maintain member files and waiver forms, and submit accident/incident reports to the Sports Director.
    • Encourage members to step outside of their fitness comfort zone by explaining and demonstrating climbing equipment and methods.
    • Participate in volunteer activities throughout the year.

     Qualifications

    •  High school diploma or GED.
    • 6 months to 1 year climbing experience.
    • Belay certification preferred but not required.
    • Excellent customer service skills.

    Essential Functions:

    • Instructs swimming lessons as assigned in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly.

    Qualifications:

    Must have YMCA/American Red Cross Lifeguard or YMCA Aquatic Safety Assistant Certification.   • Administrative / Clerical Assistant

    The Learning Circle YMCA is seeking a full time Admin/Clerical Assistant who will be responsible for administering the YMCA and government financial assistance programs, and supporting branch enrollment, fundraising, billing and collection processes.   The Administrator provides back-up support for the front desk and helps out with other administrative tasks.

    Essential Functions:

    • Administer Y Cares financial assistance program including initial meeting with client, review of all paperwork for compliance on a regular basis and tracking/managing the renewal process.
    • Administer Government financial assistance programs including the initial application of each participant, review of all paperwork for compliance on a regular basis, including the use of the POS system for accuracy in attendance and tracking/managing the renewal process.
    • Administer Government Child and Adult Food Program by the NJ Department of Agriculture including annual contract submission, monthly calculations and reporting to the Dept. of Agriculture and participating in the annual audit process by the State.
    • Manage regular monthly updates for the Center’s Emergency Action Plan and act as point person to ensure all EAP books are in accessible and current.
    • Perform the duties of the Branch Volunteer Coordinator including recruitment, reference checking and coaching of volunteers; and reporting duties to corporate office. Attend Association volunteer meetings to represent TLC Y.
    • Work with Center’s administrative staff during Annual Campaign, recruiting campaign volunteers, acting as liaison to a volunteer campaign team, managing the prospect choice and keep record of TLC’s incoming pledges/donations forwarding them to the corporate development office.
    • Assist Central Billing office and Center with collection of fees by contacting members monthly with balances due to accumulating smaller fees.
    • Assist Central Billing office and Center with collection of fees for financial assistance families and provide monthly report to Executive Director.
    • Assist Front Desk Administrative Assistant with enrollment process – scheduling and performing tours/orientations and receiving/inputting enrollment paperwork for input to Daxko system, as required.
    • Provide front desk coverage during assigned hours of the week, which includes managing visitors and customer needs, scheduling tours, managing telephone and email communications for the Center.
    • In absence of the Executive Assistant manage the enrollment and registration process, maintaining data base purity for enrollment records; submit charges for unscheduled day fees, extended care fees and late fees to the Central Billing Office.
    • In absence of the Executive Assistant create monthly menus, calendars, updated allergy lists, school directly and submit to staff and members via email.
    • In absence of the Executive Assistant ensure all office supplies and equipment is ordered with Executive Director’s approval.
    • Manage all aspects of the petty cash system including collection of receipts, approval by Directors of expenses, submitting check request to corporate office and distribution of funds to Directors.
    • Maintain flexibility in working hours in order to respond to Center’s needs during business operating hours.
    • Various administrative duties as needed.
    • Accept additional assignments from the Director of Operations and Executive Director.   
    • As an Ambassador for the Y, communicate to members, volunteers, and the general public that the Y is the nation’s leading non-profit committed to strengthening the community through Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility.
    • Demonstrate the Y’s values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

     Qualifications:

    • Minimum: High School Diploma.   Some college preferred.
    • Excellent human relation skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people of all ages.
    • Effective written and oral communication skills.
    • Ability to make independent decisions that adhere to the purpose, mission and goals of the YMCA.

    Essential functions

    1. Prepare, develop, and implement developmentally appropriate program, in accordance with the Y’s philosophy and curriculum.
    2. Participate in monitoring/ maintaining classroom equipment and materials.  Makes recommendations for ordering supplies and makes safety needs known to the Safety Committee.

      Collaborate as a team member with all classroom staff through effective communication and group planning.  Assume responsibility for planning, tracking and parent communication.

    3. Respond to parents concerns and keep families informed regarding their children’s progress.
    4. Responsible for the children’s safety, ensuring constant active supervision of the group at all times.
    5. Monitor and document health and safety concerns, including reporting injuries.
    6. Orient and supervise other teachers assigned to the classroom.
    7. Participate in agency-wide trainings, staff meetings, and complete the required training hours.
    8. Organize, clean, and maintain the classroom.  Participates in team effort in maintaining common areas.


    Qualifications:

    A minimum of  a college degree in education and 1 year classroom experience.

    The Summit Area YMCA is seeking a Chief Operating Office (COO) who will ensure the successful operation and growth of the branches, including membership, program development, volunteer recruitment and development, staff supervision, risk management, community relations, collaborations, financial development, and budgeting and financial results. This position will oversee the Executive Directors and branch staff.
    The COO will:
    • Provide leadership and direction to the branches by coaching branch executives and by providing overall direction to the branch boards and volunteers. Model relationship-building skills in all interactions with staff, volunteers, members, and the community.
    • Develop, monitor and manage branch operating budgets to assure that revenue targets are met or exceeded and expenses are controlled.
    • Ensure the operational growth of the SAY through program expansion and innovation, member recruitment and retention, pricing strategies, new site development, collaborations, and mergers and acquisitions.
    • Identify potential areas for branch cooperative programming to accomplish SAY’s strategic initiatives and goals, including quality initiatives, and work with staff groups to develop and implement programs. Foster a climate of innovation to develop member-focused programs and lead branch staff in the planning, development and implementation of new program initiatives and activities.
    • Implement and oversee a program evaluation system to guarantee commitment to the Y’s cause, and a high quality commitment to SAY standards.
    • Develop performance indicators and measurement systems for tracking strategic plan objectives.
    • Achieve branch annual fundraising goals.
    • Ensure the safety and maintenance of facilities, grounds and equipment.
    • Represent the SAY with key community organizations and events as required.
