  • Basketball Referee

    Summit YMCA is seeking part time Basketball Referee for Travel Basketball season.  Seasonal Dec- March. Approximately 5 hours a week, Thursday and Saturday evenings. 

    Responsibilities:

    -Officiates basketball games as assigned and enforces the rules of play
    -Ability to see play with sufficient clarity and make accurate decisions
    -Communicates with coaches, players, sponsors, and fans to maintain order
    -Sits, stands, bends, stoops, reaches, walks, and jogs intermittently

    Requirements:
    Must present certification from a nationally recognized organization upon hiring.
    Track record of officiating in a fair and honest matter 
    Past experience as a basketball referee for adult basketball leagues
    Must be in excellent physical condition- able to run up and down a regulation sized basketball court for the entire quarter/half
    A high level of superior independent judgment when making calls
    Must be at least 21 years old

    Compensation: $40 per game.

    A free family YMCA membership is provided.   The selected candidate must complete all required paperwork to become an employee of the YMCA. Candidates will require references, a background check, and a drug test.

  • Gym Supervisor (part time)

    The Gym Supervisor is responsible for managing all aspects of the Hubbard Gymnasium, inclusive of sports equipment, sports scheduling, supervising activities, character development (gym etiquette and sportsmanship), and safety and security of the YMCA facility and members.

    Primary duties of this position include:

    Supervise set-up and break down of equipment. (raise/lower dividing curtain, set-up/take down volleyball net, raise/lower basketball goals, etc…)
    Properly store, maintain, and secure sports equipment (before and after) gym time.
    Ensures set up, clean up and put away of facility and equipment before and after programs.
    Supervises games and activities to ensure they are played according to the gym rules as well as the YMCA standards and values.
    Keep Sports closet and equipment secure, clean, and in order.
    Attends any scheduled staff meetings or training.
    Manages any unsportsmanlike conduct by members.
    Keeps daily summaries and facility usage, using appropriate forms. Communicates with Sports Director on a weekly basis.
    Ensures that gymnasium is in order before leaving (equipment secured, baskets raised to official heights, etc…) and gym schedules and gym signs are updated and posted.
    Assists sports instructors whenever necessary to maintain credibility and consistency of sports programs.
    Assists with special events whenever necessary.
    Notifies the Sports Director of schedule problems with sufficient notice. Ensures shift coverage when schedules change.
    Keeps Sports Director informed of all first aid issues, discipline or other significant problems.
    Records and reports all incidents / accidents on the official incident report form.

    Qualifications
    1. A high school diploma or its equivalency. :
    2. Experience and familiarity with gymnasium and equipment
    3. Experience working with children and/or adults is preferred.

  • Rock Wall Climbers Needed

    Experience required

    The Summit YMCA is seek an experienced rock wall climber to supervise and instruct students of all ages on our 500 square foot rock wall on Saturdays. Additional hours available on an as needed basis

     Responsibilities

    • Monitor rock wall area to ensure safety of climbers and rock wall area while providing excellent customer service and climbing instructions to all levels of climbers
    • Assist and belay climbers
    • Supervise all participants on the wall to ensure safety procedures are adhered, maintain member files and waiver forms, and submit accident/incident reports to the Sports Director.
    • Encourage members to step outside of their fitness comfort zone by explaining and demonstrating climbing equipment and methods.
    • Participate in volunteer activities throughout the year.

     Qualifications

    •  High school diploma or GED.
    • 6 months to 1 year climbing experience.
    • Belay certification preferred but not required.
    • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Swim Instructor

    Essential Functions:

    • Instructs swimming lessons as assigned in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly.
    • Develops positive relationships with members and participants and provides motivational support and guidance.
    • Encourages member and parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
    • Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers members and participants to other programs.
    • Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.).
    • Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
    • Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
    • Organizes and puts away needed class equipment.  Reports damaged equipment.
    • Trains and supervises class aides as assigned.
    • Maintains constant supervision of students, watch for swimmers needing assistance, and aid swimmers when necessary to ensure positive learning environment.

    Qualifications:

    Must have YMCA/American Red Cross Lifeguard or YMCA Aquatic Safety Assistant Certification. CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid and Oxygen Administration for the Professional Rescuer Certifications.  YSL or American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification within one year of signing this paper.  Minimum of two years of swim lesson instruction experience in a YMCA program.   FREE Y MEMBERSHIP!    EOE

  • Lifeguard (Daytime hours)

    Essential Functions:

    • Maintains constant surveillance of the water, deck and pool areas at all times.  Actively scans the pool to achieve a 10 x 10 reaction time.
    • Knows, understands and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
    • Maintains a professional attitude and appearance.
    • Be on time and in proper uniform/equipment for each shift.
    • Maintains effective relationships with the members, participants, and other staff.
    • Give 100% attention to the patrons and operation of the pool area.  Be alert, vigilant and conscientious.
    • Maintain current certifications (Lifeguard, CPR-PR, First-Aid)
    • Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with Y policies and procedures.   Completes related reports as required.  
    • Knows all Aquatic Department policies and procedures and adheres to them.
    • Helps in maintaining pool area, including testing (chlorine and pH readings), cleaning, equipment and chemicals and completes all appropriate forms (accident report, fecal/vomitus report) thoroughly and legibly and in a timely manner.
    • Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
    • Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.

    Qualifications:

    • Must have a current certificate in YMCA, BSA, American Red Cross Lifeguard, Professional Rescuer CPR/AED and First Aid.  Must attend and pass certification classes offered for Emergency Oxygen Administration, Asthma Inhaler and Epi-Pen Administration within 6 months of hire.  Must be a minimum of 15 years old.  FREE Y MEMBERSHIP!

  • Sr. Director Child Care and Camp

    The Summit Area YMCA is seeking a qualified individual who will provide leadership and supervision to the Association’s Child Care & Camp programs. The Sr. Director of Child Care & Camp will be responsible for creating consistency, improving quality and growing the Y’s youth program portfolio. S/he is primarily responsible for staff management, fiscal management, program management, as well as the creation of strategic partnerships and the development of new programs within our service area. 

    Essential Functions
    :

    1. Coordinates the development and management of the Association’s child care and camp programs to meet community needs and achieve the Association’s operating objectives established in the Strategic Plan.
    2. Works with the Youth Development Executive in the development of program strategies and program quality standards.
    3. Establishes long range plans in conjunction with the Youth Development Executive to expand programs and services within the community in accordance with the Association’s strategic plan.
    4. Represents and promotes the Y in the local community and develops positive working relationships with other organizations, schools, businesses, and governmental entities.
    5. Provides outstanding customer/member service and meets all Association standards.
    6. Manages child care staff and programs in accordance with NJ State Licensing requirements, including certifications, reporting, background checks and annual training.
    7. Recruits, trains, schedules, supervises, and develops all child care and camp staff and volunteers.
    8. Plans, promotes, directs, and administers programs and service delivery.
    9. Establishment and/or maintenance of ACA camp accredidation.
    10. Manages the operation, scheduling and maintenance of the busing for the Association.
    11. Develops annual budget and monitors budget on a monthly basis to meet fiscal objectives. 
    12. Addresses inquiries and complaints, and resolves problems in a timely manner.
    13. Ensures appropriate data collection and data tracking to ensure achievement of goals and objectives.
    14. Assists in the marketing and distribution of child care program information.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree in education, human/social services, child development or a related field with a preference for teaching certification.
    • At least 5 years of experience supervising licensed child care and camp programs
    • Experience managing multi-site programs.
    • Knowledge of NJ State Licensing rules and obligations.
    • At least 3 years of experience managing a diverse staff
    • Strong skills in human relations, budgeting/fiscal management, fund raising, membership/program/community development, volunteer/staff development, committee and board relations
    • Y experience preferred

    Salary range, based on experience:

    $54,000 - $60,000
