Nature/Science Specialist

Develop, plan and implement a successful nature/science program that provides a well-rounded, enriching experience for all campers ages 4-15.  Create lesson plans/curriculum for 8 weeks of summer and implement the lessons and activities in science and nature.  Lessons should be modified according to developmental levels of the campers.  Provide a safe, positive and encouraging environment that will provide each child the opportunity to grow individually and successfully both separately and in a group.  Summer Camp runs from 8:00-4:00pm M-F from July 1^st -August 23^rd. Drama Specialist-   Looking for excited, energetic, and talented performers who enjoy working with children! The Drama Camp Specialist will work hands on with the Camp Director to produce and direct two separate productions.  Must be a "jack of all trades," and be comfortable instructing and leading children in acting, dancing, singing, theatre games, making sets, props, costumes, etc. Must have experience working with children. The Summit Y seeks energetic, positive role models as part-time Teen Staff to work with middle school students.

 

Responsibilities: Delivery of middle school programs at the Summit YMCA, supervision of participants, assisting with the coordination of special events, dances, teen nights and collaborative community service projects.

 

Requirements: High School degree required and college degree preferred.  At least 2 years’ experience working with teens and families preferred.  Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact with parents and teens.  Must be able to work weekdays from 2-6pm and occasional weekend hours. • Instructs swimming lessons as assigned in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly.
• Develops positive relationships with members and participants and provides motivational support and guidance.

• Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers members and participants to other programs.

• Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.

• Organizes and puts away needed class equipment.  Reports damaged equipment.
• Trains and supervises class aides as assigned.
• Maintains constant supervision of students, watch for swimmers needing assistance, and aid swimmers when necessary to ensure positive learning environment.

Qualifications:

Must have YMCA/American Red Cross Lifeguard or YMCA Aquatic Safety Assistant Certification. CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid and Oxygen Administration for the Professional Rescuer Certifications.  YSL or American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification within one year of signing this paper.  Minimum of two years of swim lesson instruction experience in a YMCA program.

Essential Functions:

• Maintains constant surveillance of the water, deck and pool areas at all times.  Actively scans the pool to achieve a 10 x 10 reaction time.
• Knows, understands and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
• Maintains a professional attitude and appearance.
• Be on time and in proper uniform/equipment for each shift.
• Maintains effective relationships with the members, participants, and other staff.
• Give 100% attention to the patrons and operation of the pool area.  Be alert, vigilant and conscientious.
• Maintain current certifications (Lifeguard, CPR-PR, First-Aid)
• Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with Y policies and procedures.   Completes related reports as required.  
• Knows all Aquatic Department policies and procedures and adheres to them.
• Helps in maintaining pool area, including testing (chlorine and pH readings), cleaning, equipment and chemicals and completes all appropriate forms (accident report, fecal/vomitus report) thoroughly and legibly and in a timely manner.
• Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
• Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.

Qualifications:

• Must have a current certificate in YMCA, BSA, American Red Cross Lifeguard, Professional Rescuer CPR/AED and First Aid.  Must attend and pass certification classes offered for Emergency Oxygen Administration, Asthma Inhaler and Epi-Pen Administration within 6 months of hire.  Must be a minimum of 15 years old.

The Summit YMCA is seeking an experienced rock wall climber to supervise and instruct students of all ages on our 500 square foot rock wall on Saturdays. Additional hours available on an as needed basis

 Responsibilities

• Monitor rock wall area to ensure safety of climbers and rock wall area while providing excellent customer service and climbing instructions to all levels of climbers
• Assist and belay climbers
• Supervise all participants on the wall to ensure safety procedures are adhered, maintain member files and waiver forms, and submit accident/incident reports to the Sports Director.
• Encourage members to step outside of their fitness comfort zone by explaining and demonstrating climbing equipment and methods.
• Participate in volunteer activities throughout the year.

 Qualifications

•  High school diploma or GED.
• 6 months to 1 year climbing experience.
• Belay certification preferred but not required.
• Excellent customer service skills.
