  • Special Needs Camp Counselor

    The Summit YMCA seeks an energetic and caring Special Needs Camp Counselor to guide campers in participation of all activities.  Assist in program planning and adaptation based on recreational themes, and supervise the campers and activities at all times.   Provide emotional support and encouragement to campers to be active and create friendships in a team environment.   The Special Needs Camp Counselor  will help with dressing, feeding and bathroom visits, as required.

    Camps run from June 30-August 22 from 9am-4pm M-F and Camp Counselors are expected to work the full 8 weeks.  No camp on July 4th.

    Nature & Science Specialist

    Develop, plan and implement a successful nature/science program that provides a well-rounded, enriching experience for all campers ages 4-15.  Create lesson plans/curriculum for 8 weeks of summer and implement the lessons and activities in science and nature.  Lessons should be modified according to developmental levels of the campers.  Provide a safe, positive and encouraging environment that will provide each child the opportunity to grow individually and successfully both separately and in a group.  Summer Camp runs from 9:00-4:00pm M-F from June 30th-August 22nd.   • Camp - Drama/ Performing Arts Specialist

The Drama Camp Specialist will work hands on with the Camp Director to produce and direct two separate productions.  Must be a "jack of all trades," and be comfortable instructing and leading children in acting, dancing, singing, theatre games, making sets, props, costumes, etc. Must have experience working with children.   • Sports Coordinator (part time)

    The Summit YMCA seeks a responsible and organized Sports Coordinator to assist the Sports Director with the development, growth, and management of the sports programs  Incumbent must interact with staff, members, program participants, volunteers and the community in a positive way.  
    Primary duties include:

    • Develop and administer adult and youth programs, inclusive of Adult Sports, Leagues, Youth Sports, Youth Leagues.
    • Develop and implement new programs. 
    • Maintain class rosters and waitlists to accommodate members.
    • Maintain log of refund/credit forms.
    • Develop class lesson plans and insure program effectiveness.
    • Develop program flyers to communicate with members, participants, and staff.
    • Properly set-up, clean up, and maintain all equipment.
    • Supervise children during games/activities to ensure they are played in a safe manner.
    • Teach rules and strategies of the game/activity.
    • Discipline children, when necessary and in an appropriate manner, using positive verbal reinforcement.
    • Be enthusiastic and confident about what you are teaching and how children are playing.
    • Notify the Sports Director of any scheduling problem for classes or events.
    • Keep Sports Director informed of all first aid concerns, discipline or other significant problems

    Qualifications:

    • A Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent.
    • One to two years related experience preferred, especially in specialized sports, fitness, exercise, fitness areas, and/or teaching background
    • Experience working with children
    • Must possess strong communication, organization and administration skills
    Incumbent will work up to 27.5 hours per week at hourly rate of $11.25 and FREE FAMILY Y MEMBERSHIP.

  • Rock Climbing Coordinator (part time)

    The Summit YMCA seeks an experienced and certified Rock Climbing Coordiinator.    Primary duties include:
    • Maintain safety at all times in Summit YMCA climbing area.
    • Teach safety techniques to all climbing participants.
    • Educate all eligible candidates about proper knots and belaying techniques.
    • Keep climbing area safe for all participants, evaluating structures and equipment.
    • Assist in the cleaning and remapping of the routes as scheduled.
    • Expand programming and enrollment for youth and adults.
    • Create, develop, and implement a new rock climbing curriculum to increase enrollment at the Summit YMCA
    Qualifications
    • Certification as a belaying/indoor rock climbing instructor
    • 18+ years old
    • 2 or more years’ related experience preferred, preferably in an indoor rock climbing gym
    • Prior Rock Climbing programming experience preferred
    • Flexible schedule that includes working nights and weekends

  • Gym Supervisor (part time)

    The Gym Supervisor is responsible for managing all aspects of the Hubbard Gymnasium, inclusive of sports equipment, sports scheduling, supervising activities, character development (gym etiquette and sportsmanship), and safety and security of the YMCA facility and members.

    Primary duties of this position include:

    Supervise set-up and break down of equipment. (raise/lower dividing curtain, set-up/take down volleyball net, raise/lower basketball goals, etc…)
    Properly store, maintain, and secure sports equipment (before and after) gym time.
    Ensures set up, clean up and put away of facility and equipment before and after programs.
    Supervises games and activities to ensure they are played according to the gym rules as well as the YMCA standards and values.
    Keep Sports closet and equipment secure, clean, and in order.
    Attends any scheduled staff meetings or training.
    Manages any unsportsmanlike conduct by members.
    Keeps daily summaries and facility usage, using appropriate forms. Communicates with Sports Director on a weekly basis.
    Ensures that gymnasium is in order before leaving (equipment secured, baskets raised to official heights, etc…) and gym schedules and gym signs are updated and posted.
    Assists sports instructors whenever necessary to maintain credibility and consistency of sports programs.
    Assists with special events whenever necessary.
    Notifies the Sports Director of schedule problems with sufficient notice. Ensures shift coverage when schedules change.
    Keeps Sports Director informed of all first aid issues, discipline or other significant problems.
    Records and reports all incidents / accidents on the official incident report form.

    Qualifications
    1. A high school diploma or its equivalency. :
    2. Experience and familiarity with gymnasium and equipment
    3. Experience working with children and/or adults is preferred.

    The After School Staff Member is responsible for maintaining a fun, friendly, well-rounded, safe environment for children to safely spend their after school time, while providing all children with a diverse and enriching program.

    Responsibilities:
    • Ensure that all programs are consistent with the mission and values of the YMCA.
    • Teach children program rules and supervise them during program hours.
    • Ensure that children are signed out daily by an authorized person.
    • Actively engage children and participate in age appropriate activities in a safe and appropriate manner.
    • Consistently implement discipline policy.
    • Maintain First Aid Records, Medical Forms and Incident Reports. Ensure that supplies are on hand and administer First Aid when necessary.
    • Inform Program Director of all program related issues such as medical, discipline, and parental concerns.
    • Adhere to YMCA safety and supervision rules and guidelines.
    • Ensure proper use/setup and storage of equipment, supplies and other YMCA property at all times.
    • Report need for repairs or replacement to Program Director.
    After School Staff Members must have experiences and/or interest in working with young children. S/he must possess planning and organizational skills, leadership and personal qualities essential to be an effective teacher – flexibility and patience.   Age 18 minimum age considered.

  • Experienced Rock Wall Climber Needed

    The Summit YMCA is seeking an experienced rock wall climber to supervise and instruct students of all ages on our 500 square foot rock wall on Saturdays. Additional hours available on an as needed basis

     Responsibilities

    • Monitor rock wall area to ensure safety of climbers and rock wall area while providing excellent customer service and climbing instructions to all levels of climbers
    • Assist and belay climbers
    • Supervise all participants on the wall to ensure safety procedures are adhered, maintain member files and waiver forms, and submit accident/incident reports to the Sports Director.
    • Encourage members to step outside of their fitness comfort zone by explaining and demonstrating climbing equipment and methods.
    • Participate in volunteer activities throughout the year.

     Qualifications

    •  High school diploma or GED.
    • 6 months to 1 year climbing experience.
    • Belay certification preferred but not required.
    • Excellent customer service skills.

    The Summit Y seeks energetic, positive role models as part-time Teen Staff to work with middle school students.

     

    Responsibilities: Delivery of middle school programs at the Summit YMCA, supervision of participants, assisting with the coordination of special events, dances, teen nights and collaborative community service projects.

     

    Requirements: High School degree required and college degree preferred.  At least 2 years’ experience working with teens and families preferred.  Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact with parents and teens.  Must be able to work weekdays from 2-6pm and occasional weekend hours. Candidates must be available to work on a year round basis.  Ability to obtain CPR/AED Certification within 90 days.

    Essential Functions:

    • Instructs swimming lessons as assigned in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly.
    • Develops positive relationships with members and participants and provides motivational support and guidance.
    • Encourages member and parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
    • Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers members and participants to other programs.
    • Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.).
    • Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
    • Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
    • Organizes and puts away needed class equipment.  Reports damaged equipment.
    • Trains and supervises class aides as assigned.
    • Maintains constant supervision of students, watch for swimmers needing assistance, and aid swimmers when necessary to ensure positive learning environment.

    Qualifications:

    Must have YMCA/American Red Cross Lifeguard or YMCA Aquatic Safety Assistant Certification. CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid and Oxygen Administration for the Professional Rescuer Certifications.  YSL or American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification within one year of signing this paper.  Minimum of two years of swim lesson instruction experience in a YMCA program.

    Essential Functions:

    • Maintains constant surveillance of the water, deck and pool areas at all times.  Actively scans the pool to achieve a 10 x 10 reaction time.
    • Knows, understands and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
    • Maintains a professional attitude and appearance.
    • Be on time and in proper uniform/equipment for each shift.
    • Maintains effective relationships with the members, participants, and other staff.
    • Give 100% attention to the patrons and operation of the pool area.  Be alert, vigilant and conscientious.
    • Maintain current certifications (Lifeguard, CPR-PR, First-Aid)
    • Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with Y policies and procedures.   Completes related reports as required.  
    • Knows all Aquatic Department policies and procedures and adheres to them.
    • Helps in maintaining pool area, including testing (chlorine and pH readings), cleaning, equipment and chemicals and completes all appropriate forms (accident report, fecal/vomitus report) thoroughly and legibly and in a timely manner.
    • Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
    • Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.

    Qualifications:

    • Must have a current certificate in YMCA, BSA, American Red Cross Lifeguard, Professional Rescuer CPR/AED and First Aid.  Must attend and pass certification classes offered for Emergency Oxygen Administration, Asthma Inhaler and Epi-Pen Administration within 6 months of hire.  Must be a minimum of 15 years old.
