  • Basketball Referee

    Summit YMCA is seeking part time Basketball Referee for Travel Basketball season.  Seasonal Dec- March. Approximately 5 hours a week, Thursday and Saturday evenings. 

    Responsibilities:

    -Officiates basketball games as assigned and enforces the rules of play
    -Ability to see play with sufficient clarity and make accurate decisions
    -Communicates with coaches, players, sponsors, and fans to maintain order
    -Sits, stands, bends, stoops, reaches, walks, and jogs intermittently

    Requirements:
    Must present certification from a nationally recognized organization upon hiring.
    Track record of officiating in a fair and honest matter 
    Past experience as a basketball referee for adult basketball leagues
    Must be in excellent physical condition- able to run up and down a regulation sized basketball court for the entire quarter/half
    A high level of superior independent judgment when making calls
    Must be at least 21 years old

    Compensation: $40 per game.

    A free family YMCA membership is provided.   The selected candidate must complete all required paperwork to become an employee of the YMCA. Candidates will require references, a background check, and a drug test.

  • Gym Supervisor-

    Part Time

    The Gym Supervisor is responsible for managing all aspects of the Hubbard Gymnasium, inclusive of sports equipment, sports scheduling, supervising activities, character development (gym etiquette and sportsmanship), and safety and security of the YMCA facility and members.

    Primary duties of this position include:

    Supervise set-up and break down of equipment. (raise/lower dividing curtain, set-up/take down volleyball net, raise/lower basketball goals, etc…)
    Properly store, maintain, and secure sports equipment (before and after) gym time.
    Ensures set up, clean up and put away of facility and equipment before and after programs.
    Supervises games and activities to ensure they are played according to the gym rules as well as the YMCA standards and values.
    Keep Sports closet and equipment secure, clean, and in order.
    Attends any scheduled staff meetings or training.
    Manages any unsportsmanlike conduct by members.
    Keeps daily summaries and facility usage, using appropriate forms. Communicates with Sports Director on a weekly basis.
    Ensures that gymnasium is in order before leaving (equipment secured, baskets raised to official heights, etc…) and gym schedules and gym signs are updated and posted.
    Assists sports instructors whenever necessary to maintain credibility and consistency of sports programs.
    Assists with special events whenever necessary.
    Notifies the Sports Director of schedule problems with sufficient notice. Ensures shift coverage when schedules change.
    Keeps Sports Director informed of all first aid issues, discipline or other significant problems.
    Records and reports all incidents / accidents on the official incident report form.

    Qualifications
    1. A high school diploma or its equivalency. :
    2. Experience and familiarity with gymnasium and equipment
    3. Experience working with children and/or adults is preferred.

    Incumbent will work up to 27.5 hours per week at hourly rate of $9.75 and

  • Hispanic Outreach Teen Facilitator

    The Summit YMCA seeks a part time Hispanic Outreach Teen Facilitator. This person would develop a strong presence in nearby  schools and work with students.   The Facilitator would plan and run a college and career preparation club that runs weekly/bi-weekly in one or more  high schools in the community. He/she would also be responsible for attending Hispanic/Latino events and/or workshops to get to know parents and running monthly PEP days at the Y on Fridays.

  • Kid Zone Staff

    Part Time

    The Kid Zone Staff member provides a quality drop-in babysitting program for members and participants 6 weeks to 10 years old.

    Essential Functions:

    1. Set-up room and provide a safe and clean environment for children in the babysitting area.
    2. Maintain toys and supplies and remove any supplies that are unsafe for children. 
    3. Report any equipment concerns to the appropriate director.
    4. Greet all parents and children who enter the room.
    5. Ensure child is signed in and out of program.  Punch card or receive money for children not on a family membership.
    6. Supervise and be attentive to the needs of all children in the room.
    7. Plan and participate in activities with children at an appropriate level.
    8. Follow all policies and procedures set by the Y, including those regarding Child Abuse Prevention and Blood Borne Pathogens.
    9. Respond to member concerns/complaints in a professional manner.
    10. Handle emergencies in a calm, appropriate manner.  Complete “Incident Reports” as required.
    11. Adhere to all standards outlined in the “Employee Handbook.”
    12. Attend staff meetings and other trainings as required.
    13. Perform any other appropriate duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with children and adults.
    • Experience working with children.
    • CPR and First Aid certifications strongly recommended.

    Part Time Day Shifts Available

    Essential Functions:

    • Maintains constant surveillance of the water, deck and pool areas at all times.  Actively scans the pool to achieve a 10 x 10 reaction time.
    • Knows, understands and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
    • Maintains a professional attitude and appearance.
    • Be on time and in proper uniform/equipment for each shift.
    • Maintains effective relationships with the members, participants, and other staff.
    • Give 100% attention to the patrons and operation of the pool area.  Be alert, vigilant and conscientious.
    • Maintain current certifications (Lifeguard, CPR-PR, First-Aid)
    • Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with Y policies and procedures.   Completes related reports as required.  
    • Knows all Aquatic Department policies and procedures and adheres to them.
    • Helps in maintaining pool area, including testing (chlorine and pH readings), cleaning, equipment and chemicals and completes all appropriate forms (accident report, fecal/vomitus report) thoroughly and legibly and in a timely manner.
    • Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
    • Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.

    Qualifications:

    • Must have a current certificate in YMCA, BSA, American Red Cross Lifeguard, Professional Rescuer CPR/AED and First Aid.  Must attend and pass certification classes offered for Emergency Oxygen Administration, Asthma Inhaler and Epi-Pen Administration within 6 months of hire.  Must be a minimum of 15 years old.  FREE Y MEMBERSHIP!

  • Rock Wall Climber

    Experience required

    The Summit YMCA is seek an experienced rock wall climber to supervise and instruct students of all ages on our 500 square foot rock wall on Saturdays. Additional hours available on an as needed basis

     Responsibilities

    • Monitor rock wall area to ensure safety of climbers and rock wall area while providing excellent customer service and climbing instructions to all levels of climbers
    • Assist and belay climbers
    • Supervise all participants on the wall to ensure safety procedures are adhered, maintain member files and waiver forms, and submit accident/incident reports to the Sports Director.
    • Encourage members to step outside of their fitness comfort zone by explaining and demonstrating climbing equipment and methods.
    • Participate in volunteer activities throughout the year.

     Qualifications

    • High school diploma or GED.
    • 6 months to 1 year climbing experience.
    • Belay certification preferred but not required.
    • Excellent customer service skills.

    Essential Functions:

    • Instructs swimming lessons as assigned in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly.
    • Develops positive relationships with members and participants and provides motivational support and guidance.

    • Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers members and participants to other programs.

    Qualifications:

    Must have YMCA/American Red Cross Lifeguard or YMCA Aquatic Safety Assistant Certification.     Preschool Teacher – The Learning Circle YMCA, Summit, NJ

    Essential functions

    1. Prepare, develop, and implement developmentally appropriate program, in accordance with the Y’s philosophy and curriculum.
    2. Participate in monitoring/ maintaining classroom equipment and materials.  Makes recommendations for ordering supplies and makes safety needs known to the Safety Committee.

      Collaborate as a team member with all classroom staff through effective communication and group planning.  Assume responsibility for planning, tracking and parent communication.

    3. Respond to parents concerns and keep families informed regarding their children’s progress.
    4. Responsible for the children’s safety, ensuring constant active supervision of the group at all times.
    5. Monitor and document health and safety concerns, including reporting injuries.
    6. Orient and supervise other teachers assigned to the classroom.
    7. Participate in agency-wide trainings, staff meetings, and complete the required training hours.
    8. Organize, clean, and maintain the classroom.  Participates in team effort in maintaining common areas.


    Qualifications:

    A minimum of  a college degree in education and 1 year classroom experience.

    We are looking for fun-loving, responsible camp counselors for our 2016 Camp season. Counselors will provide a safe, positive and encouraging environment that will enable each child to be successful as an individual and in a group while displaying our core character values.

  • Cheerleading Camp Counselor

    We are looking for  A Specialized Camp Counselor for Cheerleading Camp during Week 3 (7/18-7/22) and Week 5 (8/01-8/5). The Cheerleading Counselor will work with the Camp Director to develop, plan and implement a successful cheer program that provides a well-rounded, enriching experience for all campers. This program will include cheer, dance and some tumbling in the week long camp.

    Must have experience as a High School, College, Club Cheerleader or coach.
    Must have a minimum of a High School Diploma or its equivalent. 
    Experience working with children is desirable. 
    Strong interpersonal and communication skills are a must!  

    This specialty camp may only run 2 weeks but that doesn't have to limit your summer camp counselor role! Please express your interest for the other 8 weeks of camp when you apply.

    We are looking for  A Specialized Camp Counselor for Digital Photography Camp during Week 7 (8/15-8/19). The Digital Photography Counselor will work with the Camp Director to develop, plan and implement a successful program that allows the campers to express their creativity and provides a well-rounded, enriching experience. This program should teach the campers the basics of street and studio photography. As well as some basics of photo retouching on the computer. 

    Must have experience in Digital Photography.
    Must have a minimum of a High School Diploma or its equivalent. 
    Experience working with children is desirable. 
    Strong interpersonal and communication skills are a must!  

    This specialty camp may only run 1 week but that doesn't have to limit your summer camp counselor role! Please express your interest for the other 9 weeks of camp when you apply. 

    The Camp season runs for 10 weeks from June 27th – September 2nd

    Jr. Counselors must be at least 16 years old.  

    They should have experience or a desire to work with children.

  • Skills Sharpener Camp Counselor

    We are looking for  A Specialized Camp Counselor for Skills Sharpener Camp during Weeks 7 & 8 (8/15-8/26). The Skills Sharpener 
    Counselor will work with the Camp Director to develop, plan and implement a successful program that revisits and reinforces academic skills from the school year. This program includes 30-45 minutes in each reading writing and math to combat summer learning loss.

    Must have a NJ State Teacher Licence
    Must have degree in education or equivalent. 
    Strong interpersonal and communication skills are a must!  

    This specialty camp may only run 2 weeks but that doesn't have to limit your summer camp counselor role! Please express your interest for the other 8 weeks of camp when you apply.

    We are looking for  A Specialized Camp Counselor for Volleyball Camp during Week 4 (7/25-7/29). The Volleyball Counselor will work with the Camp Director to develop, plan and implement a successful volleyball program that provides a well-rounded, enriching experience for all campers. This program will teach campers the proper techniques to serve, pass and spike in the week long camp.

    Must have experience as a High School, College, Club volleyball player or coach.
    Must have a minimum of a High School Diploma or its equivalent. 
    Experience working with children is desirable. 
    Strong interpersonal and communication skills are a must!
